Task: Residential Program Compost Bin/Materials Distribution Project <br />Proiect Description: <br />The City will distribute up to 200 subsidized recycled plastic compost bins to residents at <br />a Special Recycling Collection Event and /or a special event at the Tukwila Compost <br />Demonstration Garden. The City will publicize the event(s) through mailings to residents <br />and/or advertisements in newspapers. As opportunity exists, the City may also prepare <br />and distribute additional promotional and /or educational materials, such as stickers, <br />durable lunch kits and /or reusable shopping bags. <br />Proiect Goal: <br />The goal of this activity is to encourage composting and other responsible waste <br />prevention/recycling oriented behavior by distributing reduced -price compost bins and /or <br />other educational materials to residents. <br />Approximately, 2000 single family households subscribe to garbage service in the City. <br />Of these, approximately 460 households have yard waste service and generate about 359 <br />tons of yard waste a year. At a minimum, the City hopes to encourage these households, <br />as well as those that do not have garbage and/or yard waste service, to <br />reduce /recycle /reuse their yard debris through backyard composting. <br />Deliverables: <br />copies of all promotional materials which residents receive <br />distribution of a maximum of 200 compost bins <br />distribution of promotional/educational materials, as applicable <br />Proiect Evaluation: <br />The City will evaluate success by undertaking the following: <br />tracking the total number of promotionaUeducational materials distributed to residents; <br />tracking the number of compost bins distributed to residents; <br />estimating the amount of yard debris that may be diverted from collection due to <br />backyard composting; and <br />preparing and administering a survey for residents to gauge their use of the distributed <br />compost bins over a 1 year period. <br />3. Task: Business Program <br />Proiect Description: <br />The City will offer technical assistance, either by telephone, mail or direct person -to- <br />person contact, to help businesses with recycling, waste prevention, and the purchase of <br />2 <br />
