City of Tukwila Jim Haggerton, Mayor <br />Department of Community Development Jack Pace, <br />INFORMATIONAL MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Planning Commission <br />FROM: Nora Gierloff, Deputy DCD Director <br />DATE: December 2, 2014 <br />SUBJECT: Work session on Comprehensive Plan Introduction and Vision <br />ISSUE <br />This is an opportunity to review the staff edits to the Introduction and Vision sections of the <br />Comprehensive Plan. A public hearing on these sections will be combined with the hearing on <br />the Housing and Residential Neighborhoods elements in 2015. <br />BACKGROUND <br />While the Introduction and Vision sections are not elements of the Comprehensive Plan they <br />need to be updated to reflect how the document and Tukwila's circumstances have changed <br />over the past 20 years. We will also need to revise the Glossary and Comprehensive Land Use <br />Map Legend but are holding off until the remaining elements have been updated so that they <br />can reflect any final decisions. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The major edits to the sections involve: <br />• Adding a discussion about the Strategic Plan <br />• Referencing new outreach techniques such as the web site and community liaisons <br />• Changing references from "citizen" to "resident" to reflect that not all of our residents are <br />US citizens <br />• Updating the discussion to reflect how the Plan has been updated and implemented over <br />the past 20 years <br />Overall the original focus and direction of the Comprehensive Plan remains very relevant to <br />today's issues. <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />A.
