u <br />Problem Businesses <br />Community Connector Survey: While many residents indicated appreciation for the recent closure of <br />some of the motels on TIB, their top choice as problem businesses were the motels, followed by Deja <br />vu /Showgirls, and casinos as a distant third. <br />Other complaints regarding local businesses referred to the parking lots surrounding some of the Somali <br />businesses on TIB, where due to a lack of security and structure, residents experience unsafe driving and <br />gang activity. Complaints about gang activity was also mentioned in regards to the parking lots <br />surrounding the mini marts and convenience stores like 7 -11. <br />Open House Participants: Responses were similar to the Community Connector surveys - an appreciation <br />for the recent closure of some of the motels on TIB, and their top choice as problem businesses were the <br />motels, followed by Deja vu /Showgirls and casinos. <br />Other complaints regarding local businesses referred to the parking lots surrounding some of the Somali <br />businesses on TIB. Complaints were recorded regarding smoke shops /liquor stores and tenants running <br />illegal businesses, such as car rental agencies also selling vehicles. <br />Access to Services <br />Community Connector Survey: Over 60% of those surveyed did indicate satisfaction with access to <br />services in the area. However, their top choices for new services included a Department of Social and <br />Health Services, a Department of Licensing offices, a health clinic and low income housing. <br />Open House Participants: 56% of participants surveyed on March 6th indicated satisfaction with access to <br />services in the area, while only 42% indicated satisfaction with services on March 8th. The top choice for <br />new service in both groups was for a quality health clinic. <br />Food Access <br />Community Connector Survey: Across all <br />populations, over 60% of respondents <br />indicated satisfaction with food access. <br />However, many of those surveyed asked <br />for lower cost options, as well as a <br />Farmers Market and more Ethnic - specific <br />restaurants and markets. <br />Open House Participants: Both groups <br />surveyed were similarly split on whether <br />or not they could find the kinds of food <br />desired near their homes. Many indicated <br />that they had to travel to neighboring <br />cities to find the type or quality of <br />groceries desired. However, many indicated needing to travel to Burien or Renton to do their grocery <br />shopping. Residents living on Macadam Rd indicated their dissatisfaction with the lack of grocery stores <br />in that area.
