RI 1R,E.AT II :)N <br />MINUTES <br />June 3, 2014 5:00pm Tukwila Community Center <br />Call to Order: Arts Commission Chair, Trisha Gilmore called the meeting to order. <br />Attendance: Commissioners — Cynthia Chesak, Brian Kennedy, Trisha Gilmore <br />Staff — Stephanie Gardner — Parks and Recreation <br />Approval of Minutes: Minutes from the May 6, 2014 meeting were unanimously approved. <br />Citizen Comment: There were no Citizen Comments <br />Business Items <br />• Military Road Play Recap: Cynthia Chesak provided a re -cap of the Military Road play by Foster High <br />School Students. Military Road was an original play about the Duwamish Valley during 1855 to 1856. It <br />depicted the life of homesteaders at that time and the reasoning for construction of the road. The play <br />further depicted how the creation of Military Road changed the lives of homesteaders and the growth of <br />the greater Seattle area. The script was a collaboration of Foster High School theatre students and <br />playwright, Rachel Atkins. Performances were held on May 22 and 23 at Foster Performing Arts <br />Center. Performances went very well. The entire process of developing the scripts, stage sets, costumes <br />and performing was a wonderful experience for students. <br />• Tukwila Village Art Selection: Brian Kennedy reported he attended the selection process and it went <br />well, he was able to work with the review team to review three artist portfolios for the clock tower that <br />will be at Tukwila Village. <br />• KCLS Art Selection: The KCLS Tukwila Library artist selection meeting was held on May 19, 9:30 -noon, at <br />the Tukwila Community Center. Brian Kennedy attended the meeting where 21 artists were reviewed. <br />• 18th Annual Tukwila Days Art Show: Stephanie shared that the show was well attended, with several new <br />artists presenting their work. The reception was also very well attended. Thanks to Steve Mullet and <br />Brian Kennedy for their assistance setting up the show. <br />Other <br />• CASTT Update: Cynthia Chesak reminded the Commission that this year's theme for the CASTT plays: <br />Science Fiction. The performances will be held on July 18th and 19tH <br />Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 5:25 pm. <br />Next Meeting: TBA <br />
