ARTS COMMISSION <br />".RIBS Rt ,RtI AT "1 :)N <br />MINUTES <br />December 2, 2014 5:00 p.m. Tukwila Community Center <br />Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Commission Chair, Trisha Gilmore, at 5:05 pm. <br />Attendance: Commissioners — Cynthia Chesak, Brian Kennedy, Steve Mullet, Trisha Gilmore <br />Student— Nandina Cengic <br />Staff — Stephanie Gardner — Parks and Recreation <br />Guests: Pat Brodin, Adrienne Banks <br />Approval of Minutes: Minutes from the November 4, 2014 meeting were unanimously approved. <br />Citizen Comment: There were no Citizen Comments <br />Business Items: <br />a. Arts 1% Process — Stephanie Gardner disturbed policies and process implementation <br />information utilized in surrounding Cities. Commissioners were asked to please review <br />the information as they will be participating in the development of an implementation <br />process for the City of Tukwila's 1% for the Arts in 2015. <br />b. Tukwila Village Art — The Commission discussed the November 2014 presentation <br />regarding three separate public art pieces that will be installed at Tukwila Village, the <br />following comments were shared: <br />• It would be ideal if anything installed was easy to clean and maintain. <br />• Who will maintain the pieces after they are installed? <br />• Regarding the water feature piece, who will maintain? What should happen if <br />there is a freeze in the winter? What if the water runs dry? <br />• Is there a plan for replacement if the piece should be damaged beyond repair or <br />receives too much wear for upkeep? <br />c. Tukwila Historical Society — 2015 projects and collaboration. Pat Brodin from the City's <br />Public Works department was on hand to discuss the Tukwila Historical Society's <br />accomplishments throughout 2014 and future project ideas relating to the origins of <br />Tukwila. <br />d. 2015 Arts Commission Budget: The 2014 and 2015 budget was distributed to the Arts <br />Commission. The Commission had several questions, specifically related to past Capital <br />funding. Stephanie will report back in early 2015. <br />e. Cynthia Chesak made a motion to nominate Nandina Cengic as the Student <br />Representative to the Arts Commission, Brian Kennedy seconded the motion, all were in <br />favor and the motion carried. <br />Other <br />Arts Commissioners requested Rainier Symphony tickets. <br />Stephanie Gardner provided the following updates: <br />• Long -time Tukwila resident and well -known artist and teacher Isabella Phalen passed <br />away. <br />• Holiday Lights Contest judging would be occurring the week of December 8 -12 <br />• The Veteran's memorial at TCC has been repaired. <br />Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 6:15 pm. <br />Next Meeting: January 6, 2015 <br />
