City Of Tukwila <br />Police Department <br />An Accredited Agency <br />COPCAB Minutes <br />July 10, 2014 <br />6:30pm- 8:OOpm <br />Jim Haggerton, Mayor <br />Michael Villa, Chief of Police <br />Present: Chief Villa, Chris Partman, Jun Castillo, Jerry Thornton, Lynn Churchill <br />1. Minutes from 6/12/14 meeting tabled. <br />2. Chiefs Update <br />• Facilities — The process is ongoing and Public Safety, Police and Fire, is the top priority. <br />• Staffing — at 73 commissioned officers hired. <br />o Officer Donnelly is back from deployment <br />o Four laterals in background, one is done except for the final testing. <br />o Records, still one in background <br />• Funding — The Mayor's staff looked at all initiatives and budget requests from all departments. All <br />Dept. heads gave presentation and then each Dept. head got to pick top 5 picks. Out of the over 70 <br />presentations, there were 8 top ones. Three of them were PD initiatives: additional budget for <br />ammunition, a police recruiting specialist (half time) and public records assistant who would work in <br />legal but 75% of work would be for PD records requests. <br />• Strategic Plan — over the next few weeks it will go out to the department. This will be presented in a <br />11 minute video and a power point the Chief used. <br />• Next meeting the Chief will bring copies of the strategic plan for COPCAB members. <br />• Firearms trailer — was purchased through significant savings in the cost of replacing the jail transport <br />van. <br />3. COPCAB Bylaws and Ordinance — Proposed ordinance changes distributed and discussed. Chris <br />will send them to the City Attorney's Office for comment. <br />4. Good of the Order <br />• Jun — his nephew is joining the Tukwila PD Explorers, he is attending his pre - joining <br />meetings. <br />• Chris — Citizens' Academy flyers handed out. Night Out Against Crime, COPCAB members <br />are welcome to ride with the City teams. <br />• Jerry — Attended Facilities Steering Committee, there were options for City Hall, Courts, PD <br />and Fire Department. Jerry felt they spent a lot of time on the FD. He also noted that many <br />of the plans were to have PD and Courts in a building of their own.
