City Of Tukwila <br />Police Department <br />An Accredited Agency <br />COPCAB Minutes <br />December 11, 2014 <br />6:30pm- 8:OOpm <br />Jim Haggerton, Mayor <br />Michael Villa, Chief of Police <br />Present: Chief Villa, Chris Partman, Kim Karns, Art Rosengren, Lynn Churchill, Jun Castillo, Jerry Thornton, <br />Laurie Clark <br />• Minutes from 8/14/14, 9/11/14 and 11/13/14 meetings approved <br />• Appointment — Laurie has passed her Tukwila PD background check to become a COPCAB Member. <br />Laurie stepped out of the room while the COPCAB members unanimously agreed to recommend her <br />membership on the Board to the Mayor. <br />• Chiefs Update <br />• Staffing — <br />o All three lateral Police Officer Candidates have accepted job offers. One will start in January <br />and the other two will start in February. They are from: New Orleans, Alabama and S. <br />California Border Patrol. <br />• The Chief would like COPCAB to hold off on surveying the community for now to allow the <br />Command Staff to set metrics and measurements of success. <br />o Once a survey is up and ready the Chief will ask COPCAB for assistance in spreading the <br />word. <br />• Chief Villa has just completed the Leading Police Organizations training. He felt it was one of the <br />most valuable leadership classes he has attended. The class was initially developed by West Point for <br />military leadership and then adapted for police organizations. All the course materials were based on <br />science. As of now, all members of the Command Staff and many Sergeants have completed the <br />course. The Chief sees the concept of Followership as particularly helpful. <br />• Events — <br />o Black Friday — there was extra staff down in the business district including: a commander, the <br />Mobile Command Post, bike, traffic and other officers, the transport officer along with IT <br />support. There were arrests and officers investigated seven traffic collisions. <br />o Day After Christmas — the staffing will be similar to Black Friday <br />o Toy and Food Drive — the Saturday before Thanksgiving there was a food and toy drive staffed <br />by officers, TPD Explorers and some Tukwila Parks staff The event benefited the Tukwila <br />Pantry and the Parks and Recreation Giving Program. <br />o Shop with a Cop — is Saturday, December 13th. The Tukwila School District provided the <br />names of students who have families in great need.
