WHEREAS, the YWCA is committed to eliminating racism, empowering <br />women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all; and <br />WHEREAS, on the last Friday of April each year hundreds of thousands <br />of people all across the United States of America gather with the YWCA to <br />spread awareness about the root causes of racism and encourage conversations <br />among diverse communities; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Tukwila supports the YWCA mission and works <br />to eliminate racial inequity through internal practices, citywide initiatives and <br />partnerships with other institutions and the community; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Tukwila and the YWCA believe that individuals <br />and whole communities must be engaged in a conversation about racism and <br />speak out collectively, with one voice, and pledge to stand against racism; and <br />WHEREAS, Tukwila residents value initiatives that will end race-based <br />disparities and make the world a more equitable, inclusive and dignified place <br />for all to live; <br />NOW THEREFORE, I, Jim Haggerton, Mayor of the City of Tukwila, do <br />hereby proclaim April 24, 2015: <br />Stand Against Racism Day <br />in the City of Tukwila and encourage all public officials, educators, businesses, <br />community leaders and the residents of Tukwila to observe this day and <br />commit themselves to stand against racism whenever and wherever it may <br />was= <br />Signed this twentieth day of April, 2015. <br />m Hagg6r 10, ayor <br />
