WHEREAS, Memorial Day, once called Decoration Day, originated <br />after the United States Civil War and was designated a National Holiday by <br />Congress in 1971; and <br />WHEREAS, Memorial Day serves as a national day of remembrance <br />for all those men and women who have given their lives in service to the <br />United States of America; and <br />WHEREAS, the nation joined together on Monday, May 25, 2015 to <br />pause and remember our Nation's fallen heroes; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council at its May 26, 2015 Committee of the <br />Whole meeting presents a Memorial Day ceremony to honor those fallen <br />heroes; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jim Haggerton, Mayor of the City of Tukwila, <br />do hereby proclaim a moment of silence to honor and remember those who <br />gave their lives in service to this country and in defense of the freedoms that <br />we enjoy. <br />Signed this twenty -sixth day of May, 2015. <br />Jim Hag e , Mayor <br />
