Office of the Mayor <br />City of Tukwila, Washington <br />I9� <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, public parks and recreation systems are an integral part of enhancing the <br />quality of life for communities through recreation programming, leisure activities, and <br />conservation efforts; and <br />WHEREAS, parks, recreation activities, events, and leisure experiences provide <br />opportunities for young people to live, grow, and develop into contributing members of society; <br />create lifelines and continuous life experiences for older members of the community; and <br />improve the physical, mental and emotional health of all citizens; and . <br />WHEREAS, a parks and recreation system increases a community's economic <br />prosperity through increased property values, expansion of the local tax base, increased tourism, <br />attraction and retention of businesses, and crime reduction; and <br />WHEREAS, parks and natural recreation areas ensure the ecological beauty of our <br />community and provide a place for children, adults, and seniors to connect with nature and <br />recreate outdoors; and <br />WHEREAS, the city of Tukwila recognizes the vital contributions made by staff and <br />volunteers in parks and recreation facilities who keep public parks clean and safe, organize <br />activities for all ages, provide programming on health, nutrition, and advocate for open space <br />and trails; and <br />WHEREAS, parks and recreation supports a safe, inviting, and healthy environment <br />for our residents, businesses and guests. <br />NOW THEREFORE, I, Jim Haggerton, Mayor of the City of Tukwila, do hereby <br />proclaim July 2015: <br />Parks and Recreation Month <br />in the City of Tukwila and encourage all citizens to join me in recognizing this special <br />observance. <br />Presented at the City Council meeting this 6`s day of July, 2015. <br />Jim Hag e , Mayor <br />
