Citv Of Tukwila <br />Police Department <br />An Accredited Agency <br />COPCAB Minutes <br />January 8, 2015 <br />6:30pm- 8:00pm <br />Jim Haggerton, Mayor <br />Michael Villa, Chief of Police <br />Present: Deputy Chief Linton, Chris Partman, Kim Karns, Laurie Clark, Jun Castillo <br />• Minutes from 12/11/14 meeting tabled due to lack of quorum. <br />• Chief's Update <br />Staffing — The group is very healthy right now, only one person off on injury, which is very low. <br />• Currently the department has 73 commissioned officers out of 75 budgeted. Three more will be <br />starting in the next 2 months, all lateral officers. There is an additional officer in the <br />background process as a pipeline candidate. <br />• It is likely many officers will be retiring in the next few years, so the pipeline officers are <br />needed. <br />• COPCAB Awards /Annual Report to the City Council. <br />• For officers, Zach Anderson was mentioned for his great work in recruiting and other <br />community efforts. <br />Jun agreed to present the awards <br />Also mentioned was the new Westfield manager, Becky Smith, who was instrumental in <br />getting the mall office opened. She has also worked with the P &R Dept., allowing them to <br />use the Skylounge for classes. <br />Doubletree Hotel, Chris will follow up to see if the Hotel gave a price break for the East <br />African Conference In addition, the Doubletree has also assisted the PD by providing a free <br />room for prostitution stings and has been supportive of the group BEST, Businesses Working <br />to End Slavery and Trafficking by hosting a conference. <br />• Discussion of 2015 Annual Plan <br />• One PD Goal is to decrease property crime in the residential areas. <br />• A second is to implement a residential safety campaign. <br />The Chief sees COPCAB as being a good sounding board for ideas to meet these <br />goals. <br />• He also would like to have the assistance of COPCAB members in getting <br />information out into the community. <br />• Another idea is to have COPCAB assist with a community survey. <br />• Provide feedback on Police communications into the community. <br />6200 Southcenter Blvd. Tukwila, WA 98188 • Phone (206) 433 -1808 • Records Fax (206) 244 -6181 Invest.
