City Of Tukwila <br />Police Department <br />An Accredited Agency <br />COPCAB Minutes <br />May 14, 2015 <br />6:30pm- 8:00pm <br />Jim Haggerton, Mayor <br />Michael Villa, Chief of Police <br />Present: Chief Villa, Chris Partman, Jerry Thornton, John Lindsay, Jun Castillo, Kim Karns, Lori Clark <br />• Minutes from 4/9/15 meeting approved. <br />• Chief's Update <br />• Staffing at 75, next week an officer from TX joins the Department <br />• Two officers are in Background from AZ and From HI <br />• One officer has been selected as a TAC officer at WSCJTC, he will do this for 3 years and the state <br />will reimburse his salary. <br />• Tukwila has a Sgt. on the Auto Theft Task force, paid by the task force. There are also 4 detective <br />positions, but there is currently a vacancy. Currently TPD is doing a selection process for the <br />opening. <br />• Had the King County sub - committee on community relations attended by Deputy Chief Linton, <br />Mr. Jama from the Mosque and the head of a gang intervention group. <br />• Sting operation at Foster HS: a few months ago students were contacted off - campus with drugs or <br />a firearm. With the cooperation of the School Dist. superintendent, an officer was sent in <br />undercover. It was discovered that very little drug activity occurs on school grounds and that <br />school security is right on things. Two students and one adult who had sold drugs off campus were <br />arrested. Lori really appreciated the job done by TPD. <br />• Discussion of 2015 Annual Plan <br />• Look at a 2015 -2016 plan, rather than one year. <br />• Survey — is there an idea for mailing them out to the community? Lori will distribute them to <br />students. Community events. Go to other Boards /Commissions with the survey. <br />• Brainstorm ways to show the PD in a positive light <br />• Involvement in new facility plan <br />• Potential arena? <br />• Wendy and Zach <br />• Next meeting focus on TPD outreach/survey <br />• Good of the Order <br />• Chris — There will be a Homelessness 101 class offered for free on May 20th.
