Citv Of Tukwila <br />Police Department <br />An Accredited Agency <br />July 9, 2015 <br />6:30pm- 8:OOpm <br />Jim Haggerton, Mayor <br />Michael Villa, Chief of Police <br />Present: Deputy Chief Linton, Chris Partman, Jerry Thornton, John Lindsay, Kim Karns, Austin Hackett <br />Minutes from 6/11/15 meeting tabled due to lack of quorum. <br />Chief's Update <br />• Currently at 79 officers, full budgeted staff plus 4 pipeline positions. Four are in training and there <br />are 3 additional candidates in the background process <br />• One records specialist done with background <br />• Tentative office for records manager position <br />• Anticipate a commander Dennis McOmber retiring at the end of the year, so keeping up on the <br />hiring process. There is a commander's list certified and also a Sgt. promotional list. The Chief <br />anticipates selecting a Sgt. soon. <br />• The 4th of July went fine in the eyes of the police department. There were a lot of fireworks, which <br />caused a lot of anxiety in people. There will be a presentation to Council about the 4th on Monday, <br />July 20th. <br />• Yesterday Chief Villa went to a regional meeting for KC chiefs about building community <br />relationships. Each of the chiefs brought a community member and this was a great way to start <br />communication. TPD goes to the IRC to talk about law enforcement here in Tukwila and also <br />attend Civics classes at Foster HS. We are engaging now rather than trying to make connections <br />after there has been a crisis. <br />• Are there other PDs in the area with Citizen's Advisory Boards? That is not known <br />• COPCAB would like to see the menu of items generated by the KC Chiefs at the building <br />community meeting. <br />Presentation by Austin Hackett, attached. <br />Good of the Order <br />• Jerry — Handed out a list of Department of Justice (DOJ) Community Oriented Policing <br />(COP) websites, police community relations materials and a clipping from the "Council <br />Corner" in the Tukwila Reporter.
