ARTS COMMISSION
V, I a <.S & uU C, A EA-i1 1 0 N MINUTES
August 18, 2015 5:00 p.m. Tukwila Community Center
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Commission Chair, Steve Mullet at 5:00 PM
Attendance: Commissioners — Cynthia Chesak, Steve Mullet, Brian Kennedy, Daniel Humkey
Staff — Stephanie Gardner - Brown, Parks and Recreation
Approval of Minutes: Minutes from the July 9th meeting were unanimously approved.
Citizen Comment: There were no Citizen Comments
Business Items:
a. Bicentennial Park Art Review, Kris Kelly & Pat Brodin: Pat Brodin, Public Works
Operations Manager, attended the meeting to share concepts for artwork
installation at the Bicentennial Park cabin. Currently, the cabin does not have
windows or a door, due to safety reasons. The cabin is often used by homeless
people and has also been repeatedly vandalized. In an effort to continue to improve
safety in the park, Kris Kelly approached Pat Brodin to discuss installing artwork in
the windows and the door, similar to what he provided at Duwamish Gardens prior
to the demolition of the houses at that site. Pat provided a few concepts to the Arts
Commission, focusing primarily on silhouettes pioneers that may have used a
similar cabin in the area during the late 1800's. The Arts Commission agreed that
installing artwork at the cabin is a good idea and appreciated Mr. Brodin's concepts.
b. Regional Fire Authority Presentation: Moira Bradshaw, Senior Planner and Chris
Flores, Interim Fire Chief attended the meeting to present information about the
Kent Regional Fire Authority and the research a City committee has put together
regarding joining the KRFA. The City Council will be making a decision in the near
future to determine if the joining the KRFA should be on the election ballot in 2016.
The Commission asked several questions and was appreciative of the presentation.
c. Arts 1 % update: Stephanie Gardner informed the Commission that staff continues
to develop implementation guidelines and procedures for the Municipal Arts Fund.
She will be reviewing a draft of the procedures with the Commission at the
September meeting.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 6:45pm
Next Meeting: TBD
