"' ARTS COMMISSION <br />����.w,��1A-i1'1���� <br />MINUTES <br />V I� a <. � u <br />�i <br />January 6 5:00 p.m. Tukwila Community Center <br />Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Commission Chair, Trisha Gilmore, at 5:05 pm. <br />Attendance: Commissioners — Cynthia Chesak, Steve Mullet, Trisha Gilmore <br />Student— Nandina Cengic <br />Staff — Stephanie Gardner — Parks and Recreation <br />Guests: Adrienne Banks, Dri Ralph, John Fleming <br />Approval of Minutes: Minutes from the December 2, 2014 meeting were unanimously approved. <br />Citizen Comment: There were no Citizen Comments <br />Business Items: <br />Other <br />a. King County Library System Presentation: Adrianne Ralph from the King County Library <br />System and artist, John Flemming, were in attendance to present the public art concept <br />for the new KCLS Tukwila Library site. Mr. Flemming shared his background, examples <br />of previous work and then supplied his concepts for the new Tukwila library. The concept <br />he provided promotes interactivity, is representative of Tukwila, and is distinctive in <br />character. The piece will consist of 26 `blades' of steel, 6 -8 inches wide and up to 25 feet <br />tall. There was consensus amongst the Commission to recommend that KCLS move <br />forward with the concept. The Commission appreciated the concept and supported the <br />ideas of involving the community in creating each `blade,' overall the concept was very <br />well received. <br />b. Chair Rotation: Each year the Commission rotates chair positions. The 2015 Arts <br />Commission chair will be Steve Mullet, the vice chair will be Brian Kennedy. <br />c. Commissioner Nomination: Trisha Gilmore moved that the Arts Commission nominate <br />Adrienne Banks to fill Arts Commission position #3. Cynthia Chesak seconded the <br />nomination, all were and favor and the motioned carried. The nomination will be <br />forwarded to the Mayor for a formal recommendation to the Tukwila City Council. <br />Stephanie Gardner will be forwarding Nandina Cengic's nomination, which occurred at the <br />December 2, 2014 meeting, along with Ms. Banks. <br />d. 2015 Budget: Stephanie provided an overview to past Tukwila Arts Commission budgets <br />and followed up with questions raised at the December 2, 2014 Arts Commission meeting. <br />Information regarding the Municipal Arts Fund and the 1 % of City funded Capital <br />Improvement Projects implementation guidelines and policy will be provided at the March <br />2015 meeting. <br />a. Sister Cities: Stephanie Gardner shared information regarding the Sister Cities Committee. <br />She explained that the Committee has been very active in the past and that current <br />discussions include how Committee may evolve, she asked the Commission for input.
