City Of Tukwila <br />Police Department <br />An Accredited Agency <br />December 10, 2015 <br />6:30pm- 8:00pm <br />Present: Chief Villa, Chris Partman, Kim Karns, Jan Bolerjack, John <br />• Minutes for 11/12/15 meeting approved <br />• Chief's update <br />Jim Haggerton, Mayor <br />Michael Villa, Chief of Police <br />Jerry Thornton, Laurie Clark, <br />• COPs grant has been approved by the City Council. This is for $250K over 3 years for 2 <br />officers. The City commitment is roughly $960. While the department does not have any <br />Somali officers, TPD has become more diverse and has officers who speak: Vietnamese, <br />Bosnian, Spanish, Tagalog, Hindi and others. We also have 4 officers who spent 2 -5 years in <br />refugee camps. <br />• Records Management System a0pr6ved,at the last Council meeting. Ability for online <br />reporting, much better ability to get information, statistics and reports from system. Also can <br />interface with other Valley Agencies, if we pay, a bit extra. Will go live early 2017. <br />• Shooting on TIB, was not a homicide, „Appeared to be, a dispute between the parties who <br />knew each other. <br />• Good of the Order <br />• Laurie, at the school district there are concerns about youth violence. These are incidents <br />near the school, not on district property. Most of them do not live in Tukwila and the school <br />district is working about it. There have been a lot of difficult conversations with parents <br />about involvement by their children. Luis could not come tonight but will be at the next <br />meeting' There is also another student interested, she is invited to attend any and all <br />meetings. <br />• Jan, asked about how the police deal with homelessness. Answer: There is a group working <br />to put together a City strategy to deal with homeless individuals. There are a lot of citizen <br />complaints about homeless encampments. It is a big issue in the City. <br />• Chris, Mayor Elect Ekberg will attend the next COPCAB meeting. <br />• John, Chris presented for the Civil Air Patrol Squadron at Boeing Field.
