ARTS COMMISSION <br />PARKS 6o RECIZINTION <br />MINUTES <br />September 14, 2016 5:00 p.m. Tukwila Community Center <br />1. Call to Order: Chairperson Brian Kennedy called the meeting to order at 5:02 p.m. <br />Attendance: Commissioners - Brian Kennedy, Sheila Coppola, Steve Mullet, Cynthia Chesak, Trish <br />Gilmore, Daniel Humkey <br />Staff - Dave Johnson <br />Guests - 4Culture Representatives Heather Dwyer, Charlie Rathburn, and Jim Kelly <br />2. Approval of Minutes: Steve Mullet moved to approve the minutes of August 9, 2016 meeting. Cynthia <br />Chesak seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. <br />3. Arts Plan Development— Representatives from 4Culture shared information and resources on developing a <br />citywide Community Arts Plan. Commissioners and 4Culture shared dialog and asked questions. <br />4. Committee Reports <br />A. Rainier Symphony — Committee has made contact with the Symphony and are trying to coordinate a <br />meeting with the Symphony, along with the band and choir teachers from the High School. All parties <br />appear to be excited about the possibilities and appreciated the outreach. <br />B. Backyard Wildlife Art Show — Committee continues to meet. Committee will send notes to staff to <br />prepare and distribute to Commission for review. <br />C. Arts Promotion in Community— no report <br />5. Other <br />A. Art Display Wall @ TCC — Staff presented options for the Art Display Wall. Commission requested staff <br />to get 2 samples. Staff will order the samples and have them prepared for the next meeting. The <br />commission liked the idea of a rotating display, perhaps monthly. Trish Gilmore indicated that she <br />would be willing to coordinate this. <br />B. New Meeting Day /Time — Commission discussed the meeting day /time and selected to meet on the 3rd <br />Wednesday of the month at 5pm beginning in October. <br />C. 4Culture Sustainable Support Grant — Staff announced that it's that time of the year to re -apply for this <br />program. Commissioners shared ideas on how this grant could be used, which include but are not <br />limited to, continued support of art at special events, re- starting CASTT, bringing in big name artists, <br />dance groups and musicians, integrate cultural diversity into Rainier Symphony, Voices Project as the <br />high school, etc. <br />D. Staff provided information on an applicant to fill a vacancy on the Commission. Commissioners <br />reviewed the material. Steve Mullet moved to recommend to the Mayor that Helen Enguerra be <br />appointed to the Arts Commission. Trisha Gilmore seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. <br />E. It was noted that one of the signs for the Tukwila Pond is in need of repair. Staff indicated that they <br />would take a look at it. <br />Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 6:45pm <br />Next Meeting: October 19, 2016 @ S:OOpm <br />
