Title or Addressee
Date
Page 2
• Staffing,
• Tiemann graduated academy
• Two officers resigned this week, getting out of law enforcement due
to the current political climate
• This brings us to 4 vacancies. Are testing and interviewing.
Speed Reduction in Neighborhoods of Tukwila, SPRINT — now to supplement
the 1 Sgt. and 2 officer Traffic Unit, with two patrol officers, one on each day
shift who are designated to do traffic enforcement when there is adequate patrol
staffing.
• Have been using speeding signs
Speed trailers
• PW will install speed bumps along S '160tH
Also traffic Circles
• Starting in February there will be a Bulldog Academy, a Citizen's Academy for
High School students
• Public Safety Bond passed, so PD is going full steam ahead for new facilities.
D/C Linton is the point person for that process.
• There will be a site selection committee. The locations for the Fire
Stations are all based on response tinges, the PD station is based on
issues such as accessibility
• Body worn cameras - Finished the pilot for body cameras from Taser. They
have the best product out there. Going with Taser will allow integrated in -car
and body cameras. We still need to work out public disclosure issues with the
body cameras.
• Cascade Behavioral Reducing some calls for service, but we are still working
with the facility to reduce service.
• How many officers does a City need? Now the western states have 1.3 officers
/1,000 population. Because Tukwila has such a small residential population, it
appears that Tukwila is far above that number. The COPS office has many very
complicated formulas for looking at things like number of streets in the City.
Chief did a study based on calls for service for us and neighboring cities, and
the number came out to about 90 officers needed. Currently we have 79
officers in the budget. Our crime rates have declined as well and we increased
non - commissioned staff to free up officer time. Right now we are doing pretty
well, even though there are always projects for additional officers.
• Good of the Order
• Jun — Mail theft near him. Part of Group Health has already moved and the rest
move in a few months.
• John — Sees a need for Senior self - awareness and safety.
• Jan — Thanks to the Chief for taking her kids on a tour. It was a huge thrill for
them.
