ILA
'M'l 1
The Tukwila Arts Commission engages our citizens in high quality arts and cultural experiences
here in our city. We recognize that the arts enhance our quality of life and sense of place and
provide opportunities for residents to gather together to share their various cultural traditions
with each other to deepen our connection to our place and to our neighbors.
King County's Access for All will increase the resources available to local non-profit arts,
heritage and science organizations to serve the public, expand their programs and reach out to
underserved communities in Tukwila and throughout King County.
We recognize that public sector resources are stretched to address societal issues such as
homelessness, food scarcity, absenteeism and drop-out rates in public schools, or drug
dependency. We also fervently believe that arts and culture are a deterrent to many of the ills
that require comprehensive public solutions. If we invest in the positive, we can minimize or
reduce the negative.
In this spirit, the Tukwila Arts Commission formally endorses Access for All and encourages the
King County Executive and Council to give the public the opportunity to voice its support for
this potentially transformative program and help us demonstrate the power of creativity and
imagination to shape a more tolerant and inclusive society.
Thank you!
Chair: Trisha Gilmore Vice Chair: Cynthia Chesak
Brian Kennedy Sheila Coppola Steve Mullet Helen Enguerra Alex Villella Daniel Humkey
6
