City of Tukwila <br />Allan Ekberg, Mayor <br />INFORMATIONAL MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Community Development and Neighborhoods <br />FROM: Rachel Bianchi, Communications and Government Relations Manager <br />CC: Mayor Ekberg <br />DATE: March 21, 2017 <br />SUBJECT: Public Safety Plan local hiring and disadvantaged business enterprises <br />(DBE) participation <br />ISSUE <br />The Administration and Council share a goal of inclusive hiring as a part of implementing the <br />City's Public Safety Plan. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Sheils Obletz Johnsen, the City's project management firm for the Public Safety Plan prepared <br />the attached memo for committee consideration and discussion at the March 27, 2017 meeting. <br />Staff met with the Public Safety Committee on March 20, 2017 and discussed the attached <br />memo and their priorities on these issues. The Committee was in agreement that using tools to <br />encourage local hiring/apprenticeships and DBE participation in the Public Safety Plan <br />implementation is a priority. However, there was agreement that affordability and timeliness <br />cant compromise these goals. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />The Committee is being asked to discuss the attached memo at the committee meeting.
