• . f 1 • <br />City Council Community Development & Neighborhoods Committee <br />COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT & NEIGHBORHOODS COMMITTEE <br />Meeting Minutes <br />April 10, 2017- 5:30 p.m. - Hazelnut Conference Room, City Hall <br />Councilmembers: Kathy Hougardy, Chair; Verna Seal, Kate Kruller <br />Staff: David Cline, Brandon Miles, Bob Giberson, Derek Speck, Jack Pace, Moira <br />Bradshaw, Laurel Humphrey <br />Guests: Nancy Coogan, Tukwila School District; Daniel Humkey, Ekua Monkah, Leary <br />Labanlic, and Serena Nget, Foster High School; Ruby de Luna, KUOW Public <br />Radio; Mary Vesper and Andrew Vesper, residents <br />CALL TO ORDER: Committee Chair Hougardy called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. <br />I. BUSINESSAGENDA <br />A. Student Proposals: Tukwila Documentary and Flags on Tukwila International Boulevard <br />Serena Nget, Daniel Humkey, Ekua Monkah, and Leary Labanlic from Foster High addressed the <br />Committee regarding ideas for a documentary film project and an international flag display on <br />Tukwila International Boulevard. The Committee recommending developing an organizational <br />and budget strategy and present these ideas to the School Board as well as work with an adult <br />advisor. <br />Documentary <br />The students would like to produce a documentary highlighting Tukwila's history, diverse <br />cultures, and challenges. They are seeking assistance with funding, filmmaking, advertising, and <br />sharing. Committee members recommended working through the Equity and Social Justice <br />Commission and partnering with the Tukwila Historical Society. City staff also suggested <br />approaching 4Cultureand King County forfunding opportunities. The students hope to complete <br />this project prior to 2018 graduation. <br />Flog Project <br />The students would like to install international flags along Tukwila International Boulevard as a <br />message of support and welcoming for all community members. They propose crowdsourcing <br />via GoFundMe to raise money for the flags and installation costs. Staff offered to work with the <br />students as there are plans to do something similar in conjunction with the opening of Tukwila <br />Village. The Committee requested that this project also be worked through the Equity and Social <br />Justice Commission, but would like to be kept informed on its progress. <br />DISCUSSION ONLY. <br />
