EQUITY AND SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMISION MEETING MINUTES <br />May 4, 2017 <br />I. Call to Order <br />5:29 pm <br />II. Roll Call <br />Present: Kathy Hougardy, Dat Tran, Joan Hernandez, <br />Absent: Dr. Nancy Coogan, Aaron Dragonov <br />Staff: Rachel Bianchi, Mia Navarro <br />Guests: None <br />III. Approval of Agenda <br />The agenda was amended to move the new business item before the minutes. The <br />agenda was approved by consent. <br />IV. New Business <br />a. Tukwila Students Presentation on International Flag and Documentary <br />Project. The students did not come to present. Kathy Hougardy briefly <br />described the project. The students want to install flags from around the <br />world on International Boulevard, and produce a documentary similar to <br />"Voices of Arrival." We will reschedule them for a future meeting. <br />V. Approval of Minutes, April 6, 2017 <br />Joan Hernandez moved to approve the minutes, Dat Tran seconded. The April 6, 2017 <br />meeting minutes were approved. <br />VI. Unfinished Business <br />a. Equity Policy Discussion. Staff presented a brainstorming document produced <br />by the internal staff Equity Policy Committee, based on the guidance given by <br />the Commission. The Commission requested that anything related to <br />implementation come out, or be rephrased as examples. The group talked <br />about the importance of funding, and a strong, long -term implementation <br />plan. <br />b. Bylaws Discussion. This discussion was moved to a future meeting. <br />VII. Reports of Commissioners and Staff /Announcements <br />Joan Hernandez reported that the Mayor delivered a "Stand Against Racism" <br />proclamation at the April 24th Council meeting, in partnership with the YWCA. <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
