The police department and the school district have operated under <br />this arrangement without an Interlocal agreement between the two entities. <br />The Tukwila Police Department and the Tukwila School District have a partnership and <br />agreement to have a School Resource Officer (SRO) located at Foster High School to <br />maintain collaborative efforts for providing a safe and healthy school environment for students, <br />staff, faculty, and visitors. This is a full-time position within our department. We believe as a <br />practice, that it is beneficial for our community to have a School Resource Officer assigned to <br />schools within the district, through a partnered School Resource Officer Program ("SRO <br />Program"), The SRO can also proactively address school safety issues and divert at-risk <br />students from the juvenile justice system, in addition to many other projects, tasks, and <br />assignments, <br />The purpose of this ILA is to establish a clear understanding of roles, duties, and responsibilities <br />of all involved pates. The attached ILA has been approved by the department, the Tukwila <br />School District, and the City Attorney, <br />DISCUSSION <br />Whether to approve the attached ILA between the Tukwila School District and the Tukwila <br />Police Department. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />None, the position is currently funded within the department's current budget and salary <br />structure. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />The Council is being asked to consider the attached Inteirlocal Agreement between the Tukwila <br />School District and the Tukwila Police Department at the August 14, 2017 Committee of the <br />Whole and subsequent August 21, 2017 Regular Meeting. <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />Interlocal Agreement <br />
