Funding for the expense would come from the <br />Tukwila Motel Forfeiture Seizure Fund. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Refrigerators and freezers are used to store temperature sensitive evidence items. <br />Examples would be blood draws from DUI's, DNA cards for homicide victims, and <br />buccal swabs from suspects. The commercial freezer would replace two current <br />resid entia I -type freezers (one as old as 27 yrs). <br />The alarm system would allow us to monitor up to 8 refrigerators and freezers for any <br />compressor/equipment failures. The system contacts essential personnel by both phone <br />and email. Temperature data of monitored units can also be done from a web browser. <br />Current units are In an storage location which is not accessed daily or within hearing for <br />2 residential type alarm. <br />DISCIIISSIll <br />For the freezers, this is an upgraded replacement of older units. The alarm 'is an <br />addition as a safeguard highly recommended by NIST/NIJ's (National Institute of <br />Standards and Technology/National Institute of Justice) recommendation regarding <br />storage of Biological Evidence.
