<br /> <br />ARTS COMMISSION <br />MINUTES <br />May 17, 2017 5:00 p.m. Tukwila Community Center <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />1.Call to Order: Chairperson Trisha Gilmore called the meeting to order at 5:01 p.m. <br /> <br /> <br />2.Attendance: Commissioners – Trisha Gilmore, Cynthia Chesak, Brian Kennedy, Sheila Coppola, Steve <br /> <br /> Mullet, Alex Villella, Daniel Humkey <br /> Guests – Jacque Carroll <br /> Staff - Dave Johnson, Mia Navarro <br /> <br />3.Approval of Agenda: Sheila Coppola moved to approve the agenda. Steve Mullet seconded the motion. <br /> <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />4.Approval of Minutes: Cynthia Chesak moved to approve the amended minutes of April 19, 2017 meeting. <br /> <br />Daniel Humkey seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />5.Public Safety Plan Update: Mia Navarro provided an update to the Commission on the Public Safety Plan <br /> <br />and answered questions from the Commissioners. The Commissioners requested to the be involved in the <br />incorporation of Art into the buildings. <br /> <br />6.Unfinished Business: <br /> <br />th <br />a.Arts Plan Update – Staff reported that the initial Call for Planning Artist closed on April 11, and the <br /> <br />th <br />City rejected all proposals. The Call was re-issued with a new deadline of April 24. We are <br />st <br />scheduled to conduct interviews on June 1. <br />b.Art Piece at City Hall Report – Staff reported that the City risk management is looking to bring in an <br /> <br />Arts appraiser through the City’s insurance authority to conduct an audit and assessment. <br /> <br />7.New Business <br /> <br />a.Art Show Debrief – Staff and Commissioners discussed the recent Arts Show and ideas for moving <br /> <br />forward. <br />b.Arts Commission Bylaws – Staff and Commissioners reviewed the draft. Comments included how <br /> <br />the trainings would occur, clarity on elections and special meetings. Staff will follow up and <br />provide information at next meeting. <br /> <br />8.Committee Reports <br /> <br />a.Rainier Symphony – Final concert of the season will be on June 3-4. <br /> <br />b.Backyard Wildlife Art Show – see report above <br /> <br />c.Arts Promotion in Community – no report <br /> <br />d.Commission Reports – Commission reports included easels for the Senior Painting Class, Foster <br /> <br />High School musical on May 18-19, and the idea of a studio tour with Kelly Lyles. <br /> <br />9.Other <br /> <br />a.Commissioners will present suggestions for purchase from the Art Show at the next meeting <br /> <br /> <br />10.Agenda for Next Meeting <br /> <br />a.Suggestion for art piece purchase from recent Art Show. <br /> <br />b.Kaboom <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
