<br /> <br />ARTS COMMISSION <br />MINUTES <br />February 15, 2017 5:00 p.m. Tukwila Community Center <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />1.Call to Order: Chairperson Trisha Gilmore called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. <br /> <br /> <br />2.Attendance: Commissioners – Trisha Gilmore, Cynthia Chesak, Brian Kennedy, Sheila Coppola, Steve <br /> <br />Mullet, Helen Enguerra, Alex Villella, Daniel Humkey <br /> Staff - Dave Johnson <br /> <br />3.Approval of Agenda: Steve Mullet moved to approve the agenda. Brian Kennedy seconded the motion. <br /> <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />4.Approval of Minutes: Steve Mullet moved to approve the minutes of January 18, 2017 meeting. Daniel <br /> <br />Humkey seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />5.Unfinished Business: <br /> <br />a.Arts Display Wall – Trisha Gilmore reported that our first artist display will begin in March and that <br /> <br />we have 3 more applications to review at the next Commission meeting. The Commission verified <br />the review process: 1) Applications will come in to staff, 2) Staff will meet Trisha Gilmore to <br />conduct initial review of applications, which be 3) Presented to the Commission for final review. <br />b.Arts Plan – Staff reported that the Call for Planning Artist is close to being complete and release. <br /> <br />c.Art Piece at City Hall Report – Sheila Coppola reported that the piece has been looked at and <br /> <br />appears to be in good condition, and suggested that we try to bring in someone to appraise the <br />piece. Ms. Coppola will look into this and bring back information to the Commission. <br /> <br />6.New Business <br /> <br />a.Access for All ballot initiative – Staff presented information on the Access for All ballot initiative <br /> <br />through King County. The Commission unanimously favors support for this initiative and signed a <br />support letter that staff will send to the appropriate County representatives. <br />b.Review promo material for Arts Show and Commission – The Commission reviewed the promo <br /> <br />material that Daniel Humkey prepared and all had favorable feedback. Staff will work with Mr. <br />Humkey to finalize and print the materials for distribution. <br /> <br />7.Committee Reports <br /> <br />a.Rainier Symphony – Alex Villella has joined this committee. The Committee reported that the last <br /> <br />concert was very good. Committee members are willing to help put up posters and promote the <br />concerts. <br />b.Backyard Wildlife Art Show – The Committee met and finalized the outline for the show to include <br /> <br />a theme category of “Our Native Environment” along with an Open, Student, and Commissioner <br />category. Ribbons awarded to top 3 entries in each category. Cash prizes awarded to top 2 entries <br />in theme, open, and student category. Staff will update the application form as well as print off the <br />postcard for distribution. Committee likes the idea of having some directional signage and <br />entertainment during the event to help draw visitors to the show on Saturday. Still working to <br />confirm entertainment. <br />c.Arts Promotion in Community – Helen Enguerra has joined this committee. Committee is <br /> <br />interested in a greater Social Media presence. Staff suggests inviting a representative from the <br />City’s Communications Dept. to provide some guidance to the Committee on how to best carry this <br /> <br /> <br />
