Arts Plan Update — Tracy Gallaway relayed that Carolyn Law and Lesley Bain, the consultants hired
to lead the creation of the Municipal Arts Plan will be presenting the DRAFT plan to the Arts
Commission at the October 18th meeting.
6. New Business
a. 2017 Arts Commission Budget — Reviewed the current spending plan and discussed how the funds
are allocated and if the committee should consider reallocating funds for 2018.
b. Commemorative item for Steve Mullet — Cynthia suggested that a good way to honor Steve Mullet
would be by completing the sculpture that was designed for Macadam Winter Garden and
dedicating it to Steve. Cynthia noted that Macadam Winter Garden was originally developed
during Steve's tenure as Tukwila Mayor and dedicating an art piece seemed to be a fitting tribute.
Discussion regarding how previous Arts Commissioners had been honored and it was noted that
Steve Mullet was the only active serving Arts Commissioner that has passed away. That park was
originally developed during his tenure as Mayor. ACTION ITEMS: Tracy will research the artist and
original design and funding options (AC budget or Arts 1%). Tracy will confirm that a plaque was
installed at the maze in Crestview Park recognizing Bill Gorjance's contribution as an arts
commissioner.
7. Committee Reports (who is on each of these committees)
a. Rainier Symphony (Cynthia, Alex, Yuriko) — No report. New band teach and choir teach at Foster.
Susan Reynolds from Rainier Symphony reached out and will be sending tickets out to Arts
Commissioners and also to Tracy for distribution by staff at the Tukwila Community Center (Tracy
will pass the tickets on to the Recreation Coordinator that works with Tukwila Seniors).
b. Tracy Gallaway spoke with Stephanie Gardner and
the page has had some updates. Tracy asked the commissioners to review the pages and give
additional feedback regarding content. Tracy was asked about the shortened URL for the Art
1
