Talking Points for Citizen Engagement Meet and Greets with the Chief
One goal is to continue to build trust and legitimacy between the Tukwila Police
Department and the diverse community it serves.
Some of the things we are already doing are:
• Soliciting public participation in identifying goals for the police department
o Through Community Meetings
o Through the Community Oriented Policing Citizens' Advisory Board,
(COPCAB)
• Training for officers in diffusing conflict
o The best way to avoid the use of force
• Working to give all TPD officers the opportunities for positive community
engagement
• All Tukwila Police Officers working in uniform wear and use body cameras
during calls and other police work. Tukwila is one of the first departments
in the region to fully implement body -worn cameras.
• The Tukwila Police Department also now has an active Facebook page. This
is a way for the community to see aspects of the department which might
not be evident in a routine contact. This is also a way for people to interact
with the police department in a manner which works for parts of the
community.
What else would you like to see from YOUR police department?
