City of Tukwila <br />Allan Ekberg, Mayor <br />INFORMATIONAL MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Tukwila City Council <br />FROM: Stacy Hansen, Community Services & Engagement <br />CC: Mayor Ekberg <br />DATE: July 31, 2018 <br />SUBJECT: Tukwila's Response to Homelessness <br />ISSUE <br />City Council has requested an update on city wide initiatives, policies, collaborations and <br />resources that focus on reducing the complicated circumstances for residents that are <br />experiencing homelessness. <br />BACKGROUND <br />During the 2017/18 budget discussions, Council members generously granted a $50,000 <br />increase in the Human Services Professional Services budget to go towards serving our <br />community's most vulnerable populations. The Human Services Advisory Board made <br />recommendations to funding increases that further support the strategic goal of "A solid <br />foundation for all Tukwila residents.” Along with deepening external partnerships including at <br />the Tukwila School District, staff worked collaboratively on policies and initiatives that promote a <br />healthy and safe community for all residents. <br />DISCUSSION <br />Staff is pleased to share this information that highlights many new and existing partnerships <br />within the region. Working together allows us to share best practices, strategies and make <br />recommendations with a more holistic and comprehensive approach. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />Costs shown in this presentation were previously allocated as part of the 2017/18 Professional <br />Services budget in the Human Services program. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Information and discussion only. <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />Human Services Update power point presentation. <br />65 <br />
