UK. <br />PARKS & RECREATION <br />ARTS COMMISSION <br />MINUTES <br />January 16, 2019 5:00 p.m. Tukwila Community Center <br />1. Call to Order: Chair Cynthia Chesak called the meeting to order at 5:08 pm <br />2. Attendance: <br />Commissioners: Cynthia Chesak, Trisha Gilmore, Noe Rodriguez, Sheila Coppola, Yuriko Rollins, Helen <br />Enguerra, <br />Absent: Alex Villella <br />Guests: Cary Simmons, Trust for Public Lands; Olisa Enrico, Artist in Residence — Tukwila <br />International Boulevard <br />Staff Liaison: Tracy Gallaway, Parks & Recreation Manager; Abbey Messmer, Parks & Recreation <br />Outreach Assistant <br />3. Approval of Agenda: Helen Enguerra moved to accept the agenda. Sheila Coppola seconded the <br />motion. The motion passed unanimously. <br />4. Approval of Minutes: Sheila Coppola moved to accept the minutes for the 10.17.18 and <br />11.14.2018 meetings. Helen Enguerra seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. <br />5. Introduction of Guests: Cary Simmons, Trust for Public Lands — Cary was invited to share <br />information regarding the National Endowment of the Arts grant that the Trust for Public Lands <br />applied for on behalf of Tukwila. A one sheet summary for the grant scope was attached to the <br />agenda packet. Cary shared a power point slideshow <br />(http://records.tukwilawa.gov/WebLink/1/edoc/312906/pagel.aspx) for a park project that <br />TPL did in Wenatchee as an example of authentic community engagement. The arts commission <br />was very interested in how the project was developed in Wenatchee and look forward to the <br />opportunity to use a similar model in Tukwila for future development of parks projects and <br />recreation programming. <br />6. Unfinished Business: <br />a. Creative Consultancy Update-4Culture matched Tukwila with artist Beth Gahan. A <br />meeting was convened to discuss ideas and parameters for the project. Tracy will be <br />meeting with Beth in January to discuss the project proposal and a meeting will be held <br />with the larger stakeholder group in February to review the proposal before it is submitted <br />to 4Culture for funding consideration. <br />b. AiRs Update — Olisa gave a brief overview of some of the activities she has proposed for <br />programming in the coming months at the Sullivan Center including: <br />• Arts Hang Out on TSD Early Release Days (1/16, 2/13, 3/13) and one on a non -early <br />release day that AiR Sarah Kavage will lead (3/29). <br />• Story Time: In Honor of National Read Across America Day, in partnership with <br />KCLS, on Saturday, March 2"d <br />1 <br />
