pr; <br />Office of the Mayor <br />City of Tukwila, Washington <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, Sexual Assault Awareness Month calls attention to the fact that <br />sexual violence is widespread and impacts every community; and <br />WHEREAS, one in five women and one in 71 men will experience sexual <br />assault or sexual harassment during their lifetime; and <br />WHEREAS, child sexual abuse prevention must be a priority to confront the <br />reality that one in six boys and one in four girls will experience a sexual assault before <br />the age 18; and <br />WHEREAS, young people experience heightened rates of sexual violence and <br />youths 12 to 17 are 2.5 times more likely to be a victim of sexual assault; and <br />WHEREAS, on campus one in five women and one in 16 men are sexually <br />assaulted during their time in college; and <br />WHEREAS, we must work together to educate our community about sexual <br />violence prevention, supporting survivors of sexual assault and speaking out against <br />harmful attitudes and actions; and <br />WHEREAS, prevention of sexual assault is possible when we increase <br />awareness and community involvement; <br />NOW THEREFORE, I, Allan Ekberg, Mayor of the City of Tukwila, do hereby <br />proclaim April 2019: <br />Sexual Assault Awareness Month <br />in the City of Tukwila and encourage residents to join advocates and communities <br />across the country in taking action to prevent sexual violence. <br />Presented this first day of April, 2019. <br />Allan Ekberg, Ma <br />
