PARKS & :Kr A a:)u <br />ARTS COMMISSION <br />MINUTES <br />October 17, 2018 5:00 p.m. Tukwila Community Center <br />1. Call to Order: Chair Cynthia Chesak called the meeting to order at 5:01 pm <br />2. Attendance: <br />Commissioners: Cynthia Chesak, Sheila Coppola, Helen Enguerra, Alex Villella, Noe Rodriguez & <br />Yuriko Rollins <br />Absent: Trisha Gilmore <br />Guests: Olisa Enrico, Artist in Residence —Tukwila International Boulevard <br />Staff Liaison: Tracy Gallaway, Parks & Recreation Manager <br />3. Approval of Agenda: Sheila Coppola moved to accept the agenda. Alex Villella seconded the <br />motion. The motion passed unanimously. <br />4. Approval of Minutes: Helen Enguerra moved to accept the minutes. Sheila Coppola seconded the <br />motion. The motion passed unanimously. <br />5. Introduction of Guests: Olisa Enrico, Artist in Residence —Tukwila International Boulevard <br />6. Unfinished Business: <br />a. Artist in Residencies Update —Olisa Enrico provided the commission with some information <br />regarding her arts background and the arts commissioners each gave a brief summary of <br />their art related background and interests. <br />b. Creative Consultancy Update — The staff liaison reported that the subcommittee met to <br />review the applicant pool. The list was reduced from 80 artists that applied for the <br />program. Each organization that applied can select 3-5 artists to interview for the <br />program. <br />c. Tukwila Arts Commission priorities discussion — each Arts Commissioner shared some of <br />the items they were interested in working on in 2019. <br />• Create a wall plaque for Russell Bradley's artwork at the Tukwila Historical Society <br />• Commission an art piece at Macadam Winter Garden to honor former Arts <br />Commissioner and Tukwila Mayor Steve Mullet <br />• Work towards a landmark art piece for Tukwila <br />• Assist with the redevelopment of the Tukwila Arts page on the City's website to <br />include a guide to public art, resources for local artists, links to arts & culture <br />opportunities, information about the Artist in Residence projects, etc. <br />• Redevelop the Fine Arts Show into a multi -day event <br />• Create opportunities for local artists <br />• Support the Artists in Residence projects <br />• Create an annual call for the Art Wall at TCC and determine if there are any barriers <br />that are preventing artists from displaying their art <br />• Help expand the reach of the Rainier Symphony <br />• Explore the development of an Arts & Culture festival <br />1 <br />
