!V>Ai�1 <br />1, m mi mrl i,u <br />Y(rrr'1i r l ii�ivilri%� 'r�aaj <br />i1lbJNrili lioiullnilfji <br />�iItlNIUm:'.!I <br />Office of the Mayor <br />City of Tukwila, Washington <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, the City of Tukwila stands with other tribal, regional, state and national <br />governments and organizations in support of National Day of Awareness for Missing <br />Indigenous Women and Girls; and <br />WHEREAS, Indigenous women and girls go missing at a higher rate than any other ethnic <br />group in the United States; and <br />WHEREAS, the disappearances of Indigenous women and girls directly correlates to <br />domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Tukwila has close proximity to an international border and a <br />large port both that have been proven to increase the recruitment, transportation and sale <br />of people for labor; and <br />WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs' National <br />Institute of Justice reports that more than four in five Indigenous women and girls <br />experience violence during their lifetime; and <br />WHEREAS, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that homicide <br />is the third leading cause of death for Indigenous women and girls between the ages of <br />ten and twenty-four, and the fifth leading cause of death for Indigenous women between <br />the ages of twenty-five and thirty-four; <br />NOW THEREFORE, I, Allan Ekberg, Mayor of the City of Tukwila, do hereby <br />proclaim May 5, 2019 as: <br />National Day of Awareness for <br />Missing Indigenous Women and Girls <br />in the City of Tukwila and encourage the Tukwila community to join me in raising <br />awareness of this significant social issue. <br />Presented this third day of May, 2019. <br />an Ek. erg, Mayor <br />• <br />p ��u,iii Y�IIII <br />I�iii i q°11�1161 mil ((lrli%�Il <br />fuillif�,dii,l uiPquIPI�Yl,iiililliiYi <br />h16111,1,11111,..., <br />
