City of Tukwila <br />Allan Ekberg, Mayor <br />INFORMATIONAL MEMORANDUM <br />TO: City Council <br />FROM: Juan Padilla, Human Resources Director <br />CC: Mayor Ekberg <br />DATE: May 1, 2019 <br />SUBJECT: Police Sergeants Contract 2019-2021 <br />ISSUE <br />Consideration and approval of the Police Sergeants labor contract for 2019-2021. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Police Sergeants are a new bargaining unit, that was previously a part of the Police Guild. <br />Their contract ended on December 31, 2018. The City and Union have reached a tentative <br />agreement on a three-year contract. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The City and the Union have agreed to a 6% increase for 2019, retroactive to January 1, 2019. <br />The City and the Union have also agreed to 100% CPI-W (June to June) for 2020 and 2021. <br />City staff researched the Sergeants compensation with Tukwila's comparable cities outlined in <br />the Council approved resolution, no. 1951, and determined the terms of this agreement ensure <br />Tukwila Police Sergeants remain in market. The contract has been voted by the Union members <br />and the vote passed unanimously. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />The Council is being asked to consider and approve the contract at the May 20, 2019 Regular <br />Meeting. <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />Police Sergeants Contract 2019-2021. <br />173 <br />
