City Of Tukwila
Police Department
An Accredited Agency
•i
PRESS RELEASE
DATE TIME: 10 -6 -11 at 9:00 PM
TYPE OF INCIDENT: Drug Related Attempted Robbery
PRESS CONTACT: Mike Murphy (206) 423 -0761
LOCATION OF INCIDENT: 11600 block 44 Ave S, Tukwila
CASE 11 -6667
DESCRIPTION OF OCCURRENCE;
Jim Haggerton, Mayor
Michael Villa, Chief of Police
Drua Deal Gone Bad Results in Damaaed Fire Hvdrant and Minor Flood
At about 9:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 6, 2011, two groups of young men met in the Allentown area of
Tukwila to exchange marijuana for a promise of money. An 18 year -old Tukwila man and a 20 year -old Seattle
man met the other party in the street to conduct the deal. The 18 year -old did bring marijuana for the
transaction but the potential buyer decided to point a gun at the seller rather than provide cash. Seeing the
gun, the 20 year -old driver put his car in reverse and punched it. He backed only a few feet before hitting and
shearing off a fire hydrant. The potential robber fired a shot at the fleeing driver but missed hitting anyone
and soon fled in a car. The description of the car does not lead Police to believe it was related to a car jacking
in Seattle that had occurred earlier.
When Tukwila Police arrived, they found the driver still with his car and a 3 foot high column of water coming
from the broken pipe. The fire department estimated that 50 -60 thousand gallons of water flowed out of the
broken pipe in the 46 minutes it took to shut off the flow. This caused minor flooding to five houses in the
area.
As police fanned out in the area looking for suspects, the 18 year -old was found a few blocks away running
from the scene. He was detained without incident and marijuana was recovered from him. He has been
arrested for possession with intent to sell drugs.
Tukwila Detectives are following up on the case and are working on identifying the shooter.
No one was injured in this event.
DEPARTMENT NOTIFICATIONS:
Chief of Police CDO Mayor City Administrator City Clerk's Council Analyst
By Email Interoffice By Email By Email Fax By Email By Fax By Email
Date Time:
Initial:
OTHER NOTIFICATIONS:
By Fax or Email News Media
Date Time:
Initial:
6200 Southcenter Blvd. Tukwila, WA 98188 Phone (206)433 -1808 Records Fax (206)244 -6181
