City of Tukwila <br />City Council Community Development & Neighborhoods Committee <br />COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT & NEIGHBORHOODS COMMITTEE <br />Meeting Minutes <br />October 15, 2019 - 5:30 p.m. - Hazelnut Conference Room, City Hall <br />Councilmembers: De'Sean Quinn, Chair; Dennis Robertson, Verna Seal <br />Staff: David Cline, Jack Pace, Brandon Miles, Laurel Humphrey <br />CALL TO ORDER: Chair Quinn called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. <br />I. PRESENTATIONS <br />II. BUSINESS AGENDA <br />A. Carryout Bag Ordinance Outreach <br />Staff briefed the Committee on outreach efforts for the carryout bag ordinance, i.e. plastic <br />bag ban, that will be considered by the Public Safety Committee on October 21, 2019. Staff <br />is promoting the Public Hearing opportunity on November 12, 2019 to businesses and <br />residents in various ways as well as briefing the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee and Equity <br />and Social Justice Commission. Chair Quinn stated that if passed by Council he supports <br />investing in the implementation effort and suggested providing reusable bags and <br />partnering with others on swag for use at City events. He suggested outreach to youth in <br />the community as they may be interested in testifying at the public hearing. DISCUSSION <br />ONLY. <br />III. MISCELLANEOUS <br />Councilmember Seal mentioned that the Burien City Council has just adopted a suite of <br />policies adding additional protections for renters and would like to investigate if any of <br />these are possible in Tukwila due to the number of apartment complexes. Councilmembers <br />Robertson and Quinn were supportive. <br />Committee members and staff discussed the Committee work plan for the remainder of the <br />year. <br />
