6. New Business: <br />a. Burien Actors Theater — Summer Theater in the Park: Commissioners discussed the play being <br />offered and the Burien Actos Theatre. Stephanie Brown provided information about the See <br />You in the Park event series and shared there may be one or two events that this may be a good <br />fit for. Commissioners discussed the desire to keep an eye out for theatre opportunities and <br />programs that represent the community and/or may represent issues those in Tukwila <br />experience. Stephanie will follow up w/ Shawn Belyea and Burien Actors Theatre. <br />b. Gary Stroutsos Grand Canyon film or flute presentation: The commission discussed the <br />information provided by Mr. Stroutos and determined they were not prepared to offer stand- <br />alone events at this time. They asked that Mr. Stroutos stay in touch for future opportunities. <br />c. Stories of Arrival Display and Event (TCC Social Hall, April 22nd, 5:00-7:OOpm): Stephanie <br />provided information about the display and the reception on April 22nd. The Commission <br />suggested that if there are additional stories to share, could be placed on the art wall leading up <br />to the reception? Tracy Gallaway will follow up with Sheila Coppola, Sheila is sending an email <br />to Merna Hecht to discuss the possibility. <br />7. Commission/Staff Report Outs: <br />o Tracy Gallaway, Staff Liaison: Stephanie provided information about See You in the Park events. <br />o Sheila Coppola: Pastor Jan Bolerjack is interested in learning about funding opportunities through <br />the Arts Commission. It was suggested to invite her to a future meeting to share information about <br />music programs she offers to the community. <br />o Pinky Estell — Non-profit student art spaces is a new non-profit that is organized and run by teens rs. <br />Pinky suggested extending an invite to the group to attend a future meeting so commissioners can <br />learn about what they are doing. Mr. Estell has finished meeting with the Tukwila School District <br />regarding the Performing Arts Center, he will provide a report at the next meeting. <br />o Cynthia Chesak/Dylan Mahler — Ms. Chesak and Mr. Mahler provided information about the Foster <br />High School construction project and support from the Washington State Arts Commission to install <br />artwork. They are working with a group of school district representatives and will report back as <br />projects move forward. FHS construction project, receiving $ from the Washington State Arts <br />Commission for art on site. Dylan reported out on the Washington State Arts.... New construction at <br />the FHS qualifies for funding from the state arts commission. Cynthia and Dylan had a meeting w/ <br />several school administrator and the state. Together, they will brainstorm ideas and then consult <br />the WA State arts list for the group to select an artist that will be a good match for the project. <br />Considerable amount of $$ - The other thing that came out of the meeting —there were two <br />paintings completed by Bill Cumming — Cynthia was of the understanding that he donated the <br />paintings. Technically, the WA States Arts Commission owns the pieces. <br />Trisha Gilmore: The Rorating Art Wall committee would like to put out a call for artists the rotating <br />art program. The committee suggests offering a stipend for artists as there are expenses incurred to <br />display their art. A $250 stipend was suggested. The committee also suggesting offering the <br />opportunity for selected artists to offer a workshop to community members and providing a $150 <br />stipend if they choose to offer the workshop. Helen Enguerra motioned to provide $1000 in <br />stipends to artists annually who display on the rotating art wall. Pinky Estell seconded the motion <br />and the motion passed unanimously. <br />
