f. The County will take steps through its operating policies, codes, public fee <br />structures and partnerships to reduce the number of animals and their <br />length of stay in the Shelter, and may at times limit owner -surrenders and <br />field pick-ups, adjust fees and incentivize community-based solutions. <br />2. Other Shelter services <br />a. Dangerous animals will be confined as appropriate/necessary. <br />b. Disaster/emergency preparedness for animals will be coordinated <br />regionally through efforts of King County staff. <br />3. Shelter for Contracting Cities contracting with PAWS (Potentially including <br />Woodinville, Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, Kenmore ("Northern Cities")). For so <br />long as a Northern City has a contract in effect for sheltering dogs and cats with the <br />Progressive Animal Welfare Society in Lynnwood (PAWS), or other animal service <br />providers the County will not shelter dogs and cats picked up within the <br />boundaries of such City(s), except in emergent circumstances and when the PAWS <br />Lynnwood (or other animal service providers), shelter is not available. Dogs and . <br />cats picked up by the County within such City(s) will be transferred by the County <br />to the PAWS (shelter in Lynnwood (or other animal service providers)for shelter <br />care, which will be provided and funded solely through separate contracts between <br />each Northern City and PAWS, (or other animal service providers )and the County <br />will refer residents of that City to PAWS (or other animal service providers) for <br />sheltering services. The County will provide shelter services for animals other than <br />dogs and cats that are picked up within the boundaries of Northern Cities <br />contracting with PAWS (or other animal service providers) on the same terms and <br />conditions that such shelter services are provided to other Contracting Parties. <br />Except as provided in this Section, the County is under no obligation to drop <br />animals picked up in any Contracting City at any shelter other than the County <br />shelter in Kent. <br />4. County Contract with PAWS, or other animal service providers. Nothing in this <br />Agreement is intended to preclude the County from contracting with other entities <br />to care for animals taken in by the County. <br />5. Service to Persons who are not Residents of Contracting Cities. The County will <br />not provide routine shelter services for animals brought in by persons who are not <br />residents of Contracting Cities, but may provide emergency medical care to such <br />animals, and may seek to recover the cost of such services from the pet owner <br />and/or the City in which the resident lives. <br />Part III: Licensing Services <br />Licensing services include the operation and maintenance of a unified system to license <br />pets in Contracting Cities. <br />Document Dated 6-28-17 20 <br />
