Chief Linton will talk to Superintendent <br />Flip Herndon on recruiting two student representative positions. <br />Staff present: Chief Bruce Linton, Phi Huynh <br />Guest: None <br />• Minutes for February, 2020 and July, 2020 meetings approved <br />• <br />• Chief's update: <br />o Staffing —11 vacancies for officer positions and two vacancies for non -officer positions. <br />Three staff members retired, two officers transferred to other departments and one left law <br />enforcement. Our recruiting officer is currently working recruiting laterals and will have a <br />list for Chief's interviews. <br />o Tosh Sharp had a question on what SWAT team consists of. Chief Linton responded that it <br />consists of patrol officers and detectives. They get called out when there's a big incident. <br />o Chief Linton shared that several emails were received from various community members <br />regarding the money should not be spent on the Justice Center and that it needed to be <br />redirected to the youth centers. The Chief shared some of the things we have already been <br />doing with our youths: <br />• Civic engagements at Foster High School discussing interactions with police. <br />• The Youth Academy (AKA Bull Dog academy) the youth version of the community <br />police academy <br />• Partnered with National Organization of Black Police Officers to facilitate a session on <br />how to better interact with police officers (over 200 students attended). <br />• Bulldog Bullyproof after school program (Instilling unshakable confidence in students so <br />they can overcome bullying without violence) <br />• Foster High School Book Club: Facilitated by the King Co Library where TPD <br />Command Staff and CPT Officers read shared insights on books selected by the program <br />coordinator. <br />• T3AMS Theft third and Mall Safety Diversion Program - A Pilot Program with the King <br />County DCHS/Children, Youth and Young Adult Division designed to keep youth of <br />color out of the justice system when they commit crimes at the Mall (for the last three <br />years). <br />Tukwila City Hall • 6200 Southcenter Boulevard • Tukwila, WA 98188 • 206-433-1800 • Website: TukwilaWA.gov <br />
