Cit of Tukwlla <br />Po/ice Department <br />COPCAB Minutes <br />December 10, 2020 <br />6:30pm — 8:OOpm <br />Virtual Meeting Via Microsoft Teams <br />253-292-9750 <br />Conference ID: 917 688 199# <br />Members present: Tosh Sharp, Jan Bolerjack, John Lindsey, Roger Arnold <br />Staff present: Interim Chief Eric Dreyer, Phi Huynh <br />Guest: Lynn Peterson <br />Allen Ekberg, Mayor <br />Eric Dreyer, Interim Chief of Police <br />• Minutes for October 8, 2020 meeting were approved <br />• COPCAB mission and responsibilities: <br />o Chief Dreyer reviewed with the group COPCAB ordinance #2.39.050 (Duties Of The Board) and <br />#2.30.060 (Meetings And Procedure) - Copy attached. <br />• Chief's update: <br />o Staffing: 77 commissioned positions, 7 frozen positions, 3 light duty due to injuries, 2 on <br />administrative leave, 2 recently out of the academy and preparing to start field training, 1 job offer <br />currently in background. The frozen positions include a Major Crimes Unit sergeant, Major Crimes <br />Unit detective, 2 Anti -Crime detectives, a Community Police Team detective, a Community Liaison <br />officer and a Police Support (court transport) officer position. <br />o Search for Chief of Police: HR director presented and discussed status of the search at the 12/6/20 <br />Council meeting. <br />o Justice Center: The PD and Court are completely moved in. There are still punch list items that <br />need to be completed. <br />• COPCAB member vacancies: <br />o Due to medical reasons, Jerry Thornton has not been able to attend meetings <br />o Kim Karns resigned from the Board due to demanding work schedule. <br />o TSD Superintendent, Dr. Herndon will assist in searching for a student to fill the student vacancy. <br />DARE instructors and SROs can help as well. <br />• Community survey: <br />o Group discussed ways to send out survey to community members: put survey out in conjunction <br />with other commissions; use the survey COPCAB already has and put out from COPCAB instead of <br />in concert with other commissions; find out languages spoken in Tukwila and have surveys <br />translated, then send survey out as is. <br />• Good of the order <br />o Jan: Happy with police response.
