<br /> <br /> <br />TO: Tukwila Planning Commission <br />FROM: Nora Gierloff, AICP, DCD Director <br />BY: Nancy Eklund, AICP & Neil Tabor, AICP <br />DATE: January 30, 2024 <br />SUBJECT: Draft Community Character and Land Use Element (Refined) - Briefing <br /> <br />ISSUE <br /> <br />This agenda item is to brief the Planning Commission at their February 8, 2024, meeting on a proposed <br />Community Character Goals and Policies, and further refinements to the Land Use Element for the <br /> <br /> <br />COMMUNITY CHARACTER ELEMENT <br /> <br />The consolidated renamed Community Character Element includes portions of the Community Image <br />and Identity Element, the Roles and Responsibilities Element, and a few policies from the Residential <br />Neighborhoods Element. <br /> <br />Its purpose is to characterize how the Tukwila envisions itself in terms of its character as a built <br />environment, its relationship to its past, its cultural uniqueness as a community, and the health of its <br />community members. In addition, the role of the City in supporting its community is also discussed <br />whether in the focus on providing accessible community services in languages that recognize <br />significant non-English speaking community; the human services provided <br />of life; as well as the safety and emergency preparedness services that serve the Tukwila population. <br />Finally, the Element addresses how its citizens are encouraged to volunteer on boards and <br />commissions to help direct Tukwila activities, and how the City should assume a role in supporting <br />Tukwila regionally. <br /> <br />UPDATES IN LAND USE ELEMENT <br /> <br />The Draft Land Use Element has been updated with additional materials and revised based on Planning <br />Commission (PC) Feedback and further staff review. <br /> <br />General Additions <br /> Additional Introduction language and issues statement framing <br /> Goal and policies for Comprehensive Plan designations and corresponding zoning classification <br />table (Zone specific classification language taken from 2015 Comprehensive Plan with some <br />alterations) <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />
