Tukwila Equity and Social Justice Commission <br />City of Tukwila — City Hall <br />6200 Southcenter Boulevard, Tukwila, WA 98188 <br />• Pride Month <br />The City to hold a Pride Flag Ceremony on Monday, June 9, 12pm, City Hall Flagpole. <br />This is an internally focused event for employees, councilmembers, and board <br />member and commissioners. The program will include a reading of the City's Pride <br />Month Proclamation by Mayor McLeod, a presentation by the Executive Director of <br />Entre Hermanos, and a special presentation from a talented community leader. <br />ESJ Commission approved $300 to support of Showalter Middle School's GSA Pride <br />event on June 9. The funds will support treats and decor. On behalf of GSA, the <br />Advisor will be recognized at the June 8 Seawolves Pride Night game. <br />• Juneteenth, Thursday, June 19, Sullivan Center Plaza <br />Maryan, Jo, and Mr. Duffie are participating on the planning committee. This year's <br />theme is Echoes of Freedom: Past, Present & Future. The event will include festive <br />music and dancing, talented artists and a keynote address from Trish, resources and <br />giveaways, refreshments, and door prizes! All attendees will receive a beautiful, <br />commemorative poster. <br />• World Refugee Day, Saturday, June 28, Foster High School <br />Jo is representing the City on the partner planning group that includes the <br />International Rescue Committee, King County Library System, and Wide World for <br />Refugees. This day honors the courage and determination of the millions of <br />refugees who have been forced to flee their homelands due to war, persecution, or <br />natural disasters. This free event is open to the public and features multiple <br />performances from around the world, vendor and resource tables, children's <br />activities, multicultural cuisine and more. <br />• Veteran's Day — Mr. Duffie reported that he and his daughter participated in the <br />Puget Sound Honor Flight to Washington D.C. He hopes to raise awareness about <br />such opportunities so more veterans will take advantage. <br />Awareness, Forums, Trainings: <br />• Racial Restrictive Covenants — Aaron adapted and shared a document titled 'Long <br />Range Action Plan for Racial Restrictive Covenants Follow -Up' (attached) with <br />categories, goals, and recommended actions outlined. <br />• Know Your Rights — Red Cards are in print; utilizing $300 approved to produce <br />materials for distribution. <br />
