1: ** *BUILDING DEPARTMENT CONDITIONS * **
2: No changes will be made to the plans unless approved by the Engineer and the Tukwila Building Division.
3: Plumbing permits shall be obtained through the Seattle -King County Department of Public Health. Plumbing will be
inspected by that agency, including all gas piping (296- 4722).
4: Electrical permits shall be obtained through the Washington State Division of Labor and Industries and all electrical
work will be inspected by that agency (206- 835 - 1111).
5: All permits, inspection records, and approved plans shall be available at the job site prior to the start of any
construction. These documents are to be maintained and available until final inspection approval is granted.
6: Readily accessible access to roof mounted equipment is required.
7: Any exposed insulations backing material shall have a Flame Spread Rating of 25 or less, and material shall bear
identification showing the fire performance rating thereof.
8: All construction to be done in conformance with approved plans and requirements of the Uniform Building Code (1997
Edition) as amended, Uniform Mechanical Code (1997 Edition), and Washington State Energy Code (1997 Edition).
9: Validity of Permit. The issuance of a permit or approval of plans, specifications, and computations shall not be
construed to be a permit for, or an approval of, any violation of any of the provisions of the building code or of any
other ordinance of the jurisdiction. No permit presuming to give authority to violate or cancel the provisions of this
code shall be valid.
10: Manufacturers installation instructions required on site for the building inspectors review.
11: ** *FIRE DEPARTMENT CONDITIONS * **
12: The attached set of plans have been reviewed by The Fire Prevention Bureau and are acceptable with the following
concerns:
13: ** *FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS * ** - City Ordinance #1646 - NFPA 72
14: H.V.A.C. units rated at greater than 2,000 cfm require auto - shutdown devices. These devices shall be separately zoned
in the alarm panel and local U.L. central station supervision is required. (City Ordinance #1900)
15: H.V.A.C. systems supplying air in excess of 2,000 cubic feet per minute to enclosed spaces within buildings shall be
equipped with an automatic shutoff. Automatic shutoff shall be accomplished by interrupting the power source of the
air - moving equipment upon detection of smoke in the main supply -air duct served by such equipment. Smoke detectors
shall be labeled by an approved agency for air -duct installation and shall be installed in accordance with the
manufacturer's installation instructions. (UMC 608)
16: Dedicated fire alarm system circuit breaker(s) shall be equipped with a mechanical lockout device. (NFPA 72 (1- 5.2.8.2))
17: Duct smoke detectors shall be capable for being reset from the alarm panel. (City Ordinance #1900)
18: Duct detectors shall send a supervisory signal only upon activation.
19: Remote indicator lights are required on all above ceiling smoke detectors. (City Ordinance #1900)
20: All new fire alarm systems or modifications to existing systems shall have the written approval of the Tukwila Fire
Prevention Bureau. No work shall commence until a fire department permit has been obtained. (City Ordinance #1900) (UFC
1001.3)
21: Call the Tukwila Fire Department at 575 -4407 for approval of any system shut down. Have job site address, name and
Tukwila Fire Department Job Number available to confirm shut down approval. (City Ordinance #1900)

23: All electrical work and equipment shall conform strictly to the standards of The National Electrical Code. (NFPA 70)

Subject: Structural review of existing framing for new Air Conditioning units
Dear Mark;
We have reviewed the existing roof framing of the above building. Our analysis is based upon
existing framing information provided by your firm. The framing consists of 2x4 subpurlins
spaced at 2' -0" o.c., spanning about 8' -0 ". These subpurlins are supported by 4x14 purlins
spaced at 8' -0" o.c. and spanning about 20' -0 ". These purlins are supported by 8 3/4" wide
glued laminated beams spanning about 60' -0 ". You have provided the unit weight as being 866
pounds. This weight includes the econo. and relief weight of 46 pounds.
Our analysis shows that the existing joists and beams are capable of supporting this unit and will
not need any additional reinforcement.

Subject: Lateral Analysis of new Air Conditioning roof top units

Enclosed is our lateral analysis of the above unit. Our analysis is based upon unit dimensions
and weight you have provided. The new unit weighs 866 pounds. This weight includes the
econo. and relief.
For attaching the new unit to the existing roof, our analysis shows that #10 bugle headed screws
and 3/8 inch by 3 inch lag screws are required for seismic zone 3. Use (2) 010 screws to attach
the new unit to the new 12 -gage angle, and use (1) 3/8" lag screw to attach the new 12 -gage
angle to the new 4x4. As for connecting the new 4x4 to the existing 6x6, use (1) 3/8 inch by 3-
inch lag screw in each and use a 12 -gage angle as the transfer angle. Note the new angle should
be at least 3 inches wide and each leg should be at least 3 inches long with the lag screws applied
on the centerline of the angle and centerline of' the wood.
Verify that the existing 6x6 is attached to the roof with the same amount of screws or bolts in a
similar manner.

Dear Permit Holder:
In reviewing our current records the above noted permit has not received a final inspection by the City of Tukwila
Building Division. Per the Uniform Building Code and/or Uniform Mechanical Code, every permit issued by the
Building Official under the provisions of this code shall expire by limitation and become null and void if the
building or work authorized by such permit is not commenced within 180 days from the date of such permit, or if
the building or work authorized by such permit is suspended or abandoned at any time after the work is
commenced for a period of 180 days.
Based on the above, you are hereby advised to:
This inspection is intended to determine if substantial work has been accomplished since issuance of the permit
or last inspection; or if the project should be considered abandoned.
If such determination is made, the Building Code does allow the Building Official to approve a one -time
extension up to 180 days. Extension requests must be in writing and provide satisfactory reasons why
circumstances beyond the applicants control have prevented action from being taken.
In the event you do not call for the above inspection or request and receive an extension prior to August 4, 2003,
your permit will become null and void and any further work on the project will require a new permit and
associated fees.
