LOCATION A. The water heater should be installed in a clean, dry location as close as practical to the gas vent or chimney. Long hot water lines should be insulated to conserve water and energy, The water heater and water lines should be protected from exposure to Ireez• ing temperatures. B. A gas fired water heater should not be installed in a space where liquids which give oil flammable vapors aro to be used or stored. Such liquids include gasoline, LP gas (butane and propane), paint or adhesives and their thinners, solvents or removers. A factory designed leg extension kit is available for this purpose from the distributor or store where the water heater was purchased, Ask for Leg Kit AE.35450. COMBUSTION & VENTILATION AIR — Proper operation of the water heater requires air for combustion and ventilation, 11 the water healer Is installed In an unconfined space within a building of conventional frame, masonry or metal construction, infiltration air Is normally adequate for proper combuatlon and ventilation, Howovor,11 the space Is confined, provisions for this air must be made. A confined space is one having a volume of less than 50 cubic feet per 1000 Btulh of the aggregate input of all appliances within that space. The air must be supplied through Iwo perms• nenl openings of equal area, one of which is to be located ap• proximately 12 inches above the floor and the other of which is to be located approximately 12 inches below the ceiling. The mini• mum net Tree area of each opening must be not less than one square inch per 1000 Btu /h of the total input rating of all the ap• pliances in the enclosure, it each opening communicates with other unconfined areas inside the building. Then reinstall the retaining screw, 5, Reconnect gas pipe union and wiring to gas valve, turn on man• ual gas shut•oll valve and test for gas leak, B, VENTING SYSTEM — Inspect venting system at least yearly to make certain the passageways are tree and unobstructed, and that the vent connectors from the water heater's draft hood to the chimney are properly positioned and securely attached. Remove any obstructions in vent connector or chimney and replace any corroded through vent connectors. C. CONTROLS -- The manifold pressure and controls should be checked at least yearly by a qualified service technician.
