Finally, remove the previously applied tape which holds the flap of the weather resistant barrier at the head. 4. Allow the flap to lie flat over the head flashing. 5. Apply a new piece of sheathing tape over the entire diagonal cut made in the weather resistant barrier (see Figure 16 -36) . 6. Apply a bead of sealant at the head (over the mounting flange) of the installed window, directly over the fasteners and /or pre - punched holes (see Figure 16 -33). • Note: Do not extend the bead of sealant beyond the jamb mounting flange. 2. Tuck the head flashing under the flap of the weather resistant barrier at the head. • Press the head flashing into the sealant beads previously applied until the sealant appears along the bottom edge (see Figure 16 -35). Swardz, P.E. The purpose of this inspection was to evaluate the siding installation, to the extent that a reasonable amount of time and conditions permit. The initial presumption is that all elements are adequate and proper. Statements, representations or conclusions to the contrary are made only when the inspecting engineer sees evidence which, in his judgment, indicates the existence of significant deficiencies. The inspection is visual only and does not involve the opening or exposure of elements concealed from view. Wherever a deficiency of any kind is identified in this report, there is always a possibility that it is associated with a larger, more serious, more extensive or more pervasive problem that is hidden from view or is beyond the scope of this inspection. Consequently, you should take whatever action is necessary to ensure that the full extent and implications of identified deficiencies are known. To fully understand the importance of any deficiency, you should obtain bids for its correction. Bids for repairs vary widely, with high bids sometimes being five to ten times the amount of low bids for the same work. You should always obtain at least three competitive bids. The limitations on this inspection include any noted in the body of the report together with those listed under "Limitations on Inspections" at the end of the report. We consider these limitations unavoidable. If you make any use of the information contained in this report, it is necessary that you understand and accept these limitations. IF THESE LIMITATIONS ARE UNACCEPTABLE TO YOU, YOU SHOULD NOT RELY ON THE INFORMATION IN THIS REPORT FOR ANY PURPOSE WHATSOEVER. EVALUATIONS The south sides of Buildings A, B, C, D, E, F, and G are being resided with cedar shingles. The original installation was wood shingles attached to spaced board sheathing that was placed over foil backed heavy paper sheathing. The new installation is similar to the original siding, but with 15 pound building felt placed over the spaced board sheathing. Additionally, ice -dam material is being placed around all window and door openings. All deteriorated material is being removed and replaced as it is discovered. The corner trim boards and the window trim is being replaced. "Z" flashing is being installed above the top window trim. Final painting is also part of the contract. The siding work is essentially complete with the exception of some work on Building D. It is my opinion that the work was performed in a craftsmanship manner and is consistent with good construction practice.
