A completed "Mechanical Permit Fee Worksheet” must accompany this permit application. Handouts are available at the Building counter which provide more detailed infoimatioti on application and plan submittal requirements. Application; and clans must be complete in order to be accented for clan review. BUILDING OWNER / AUTHORIZED AGENT If the applicant is other than the owner, registered architect/engineer, or contractor licensed by the State of Washington, a notarized letter from the property owner authorizing the agent to submit this permit application and obtain the permit will be required as part of this submittal. VALUATION OF CONSTRUCTION The valuation is for the work covered by this permit and must be filled in by the applicant. This figure is used for budget reporting purposes only and not to calculate your fees. EXPIRATION OF PLAN REVIEW Applications for which no permit is issued within 180 days following the date of application shall expire by limitation. The Building Official may extend the time for action by the applicant for a period not exceeding 180 days upon written request by the applicant as defined in Section 304(d) of the Uniform Mechanical Code (current edition). Cleanup. 1.02 RELATED REQUIREMENTS A. Division 15 -- Mechanical: Mechanical equipment.requir- ing electrical connections. See mechanical plans. 1.03 ELECTRICAL CONTRACT WORK A. The work covered by the Contract Drawings and these specifications cover the installation for a complete building electrical system, including, but not limited to: 1. Electrical service, secondary conduit runs and secondary conductors to point of connection with utility service facilities. 2. A system of feeders in conduit to power panels and branch - circuit' panels. 3. Branch - circuit panels for power and lighting. 4. Branch - circuit wiring system for motors, recepta- cles, junction boxes, lighting and control wiring. 5. Wall switches, receptacles, floor boxes, and other 'devices as shown on drawings. 6. Light fixtures. 7. Installation and final connection between adjoin- ing pieces of track lighting, plus track light fixtures. 8. Wiring, including the following: a. Wiring up to and including fused disconnect for heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment. b. Magnetic starter furnished by Electrical Con- tractor. c. Fused disconnect and all power wiring for all mechanical equipment from branch - circuit panel to fused disconnect at HVAC equipment. d. Final connection from disconnect or magnetic starter on HVAC equipment (by Electrical Con- tractor). e. Control wiring and conduit for HVAC Systems. 9. Telephone conduit system, pull wire, and j- boxes. 10. Fire and burglar detection system conduit, pull wire, and junction boxes. 11. Sound system conduit, pull wire and junction boxes. 1.04 CONNECTIONS TO EQUIPMENT FURNISHED BY OTHERS A. General: Provide wiring, conduit, switches and boxes as required to make final, connection to all miscella- neous equipment and machinery furnished and set in place by others, including but not limited to shop and mechanical equipment. 1.05 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Materials: All materials shall be U.L. labeled where labeling service is normally available. All equipment :0.011 be regularly catalogued items of the manufacturer and shall be supplied as a complete unit in accordance with the manufacturer's standard specifications and any optional items required for proper installation unless otherwise noted. B. Codes: Comply . with requirements of Uniform Building Code and Supplement to the UBC, Appendix Chapter 7. Comply with local seismic requirements. Comply with 1987 N.F,.C., Washington State Energy Code, and the City of Tukwila. 1.06 SUBMITTALS A. kiake all submittals in accordance with Section 01300, Submittals. B. Complete Submittals: Submit complete, at one time. Partial submittals will not be considered. C. Product Data: 1. Submit in booklet form with data arranged under basic categories; i.e., lighting fixtures, panels, etc. Include a typewritten index with dividers and identifying tabs between sections and refer- ences to Section of the Specifications. 2. Provide six (6) identical copies of a complete equipment material list with the item or model to be used clearly marked, showing ratings where ap- propriate for approval and coordination. Indicate substitute items separately. 3. Assembly manuals in ring binders with "Electrical Equipment Operation and Maintenance" operating in- structions. D. shop Drawings: 1. Coordinate with General Contractor and install in con- struction as work progresses; do not interfere with re- inforcing steel. C. Under no circumstances :hake attachments to concrete or other structural members in such a way as to impair: the structural integrity of the member. Install with due regard for the structural integrity of all adjacent work. Do not support work from any HVAC, plumbing, or sprinkler system components. Do not drill, "shoot" or attach into precast members in any manner that would impair or damage member. any D. Provide all racks, stands and supports for equipment and work as required. Fabricate racks and supports from steel angle or channels cut to fit neatly; weld or bolt into a sturdy fit. Design, attach, and anchor racks, stands and supports to resist vertical and lat- eral loads required by Code. Install racks as close to ceiling structure as possible. 1.14 EXCAVATING AND BACKFILL A. Do all necessary hackfill per requirements of Section 02200 -- Earthwork. Remove surplus earth from site and dispose of legally. 1.15 UTILITIES A. Consult with the servicing utility and become familiar with their requirements. Pay all costs for service not provided by the serving utility. 1.16 IDENTIFICATION AND LABELING A. General: Equip each distribution and lighting panel with a typewritten directory accurately indicating rooms and /or equipment being served, including the main switchboard. Note 11 disconnects in switchboard as main disconnect #1, etc., or as to the panel or, equip- ment they serve. Labels shall be permanently fastened to switchgear panel or control station. B. Branch Circuits: Make use of all standard colors on branch circuits. Identify emergency circuits ,in red throughout. Where groups of different systems junction in a common box, group each cable with its own system and identify, using tags or identification strips. C. 3 -Phase Systems: On all 3 -phase systems, identify each phase at all terminals using code markers. D. Control Stations: Mark all control stations control- ling remote equipment to identify the device being con- trolled. Marking shall be permanent. E. Light and Power Panels: Identify all light and power panels, motor starters, disconnects on main panelboard, remote control stations, etc., with engraved lamacoid nameplates fastened to the equipment with escutcheon pins. Nameplates shall be 1/8" 5 -ply lamacoid with 1/4" white letters on a black background. 1.17 TESTS A. General: During the course of construction, and (3) three weeks prior to store opening, conduct the follow- ing tests on the electrical installation: 1. Ground system. 2. Check all motors for proper rotation. 3. In the presence of the Owner, Architect, and the Architect's electrical engineer, test the emer- gency battery system, for code compliance and Fire Marshal approval. B. Upon Completion of the Project: 1. Adjust all voltage taps on transformers for an op- timum operating level. 2. Adjust all auxiliary systems for optimum perfor- mance. 3. Measure load balance on all panels and recommend loads as may be necessary to obtain a reasonable balance of load on phases. 1.18 CLEANUP A. Leave all equipment clean and ready for use. Protect all equipment fro,: damage during construction. Leave 11.1 new appearance. All enclosures (i.e. - switchgear, electrical panels, disconnects, etc.) shall be vacuumed to remove all dust and debris. B. Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT): Cold- rolled steel tubing with a zinc - coating on the outside and a protective enamel coating on the inside. 3. Fittings, meet the following Requirements: a. Same finish and materials as EMT. b. Approved by the Underwriter's Laboratories. c. Listed as concrete - tight. d. Compression -ring, rain -tight and concrete - tight, or Appleton connections shall be insu- lated type. 4. Liquid -tight Flexible Conduit: Galvanized with extruded polyvinyl covering and with water -tight connectors. 5. Flexible Conduit: Zinc- coated steel. Fittings screw wedge type. 6. PVC conduit allowed only in below grade areas or in concrete slabs; where below grade, change to rigid steel or EMT at 2" below finished floor, all ells shall be rigid steel. 2.02 JUNCTION AND PULL BOXES A. Outlet Boxes for Concealed Wiring: One piece knockout opening type, made of pressed steel with an overall corrosion resistant coating of cadmium or zinc. B. Square or rectangular with a minimum length and width of 4" and a minimum depth of 1 -1/2" unless otherwise indicated; furnished with suitable plaster and /or ex- tension rings. C. Paint all junction boxes containing emergency circuits red. 2.03 WIRE A. Each panel shall have a door and lock, keyed alike. B. Service Entrance Equipment: 1. Furnish fuses plus 100% spare fuses; Sussman 'Fusetron for motor protection and Sussman Limitron for circuit breaker protection. Rating of panels shall be 600 volt. 3. Install, where shown on plans, existing dry type transformer and all mounting brackets, supports, rods and angle iron. 2. Transformer shall be complete, UL approved unit. 3. Provide mounting rack or support, as detailed on electrical drawings, for each transformer. All transformers, where required, shall be suspended from building structure with rod hangers. 4. Comply with seismic requirements. 5. Provide isolation mounting for each. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 CONDUIT INSTALLATION A. General: 1. Install metallic conduit system for the connection of all outlet boxes, disconnects junction boxes, panelboards, cabinets, etc., as indicated on the drawings. 2. Run conduit continuous between outlets with a min- imum number of bends. 3. Where conduits pass through exterior concrete walls, ceilings, or footings below grade, make the entrance watertight by providing pipe sleeves in the concrete with 1 /2" minimum clearance around the conduit; caulk with oakum and sealant speci- fied, or by means of a conduit entrance seal; O.Z. Type FSK or equal. 4. In furred ceilings support conduit runs from structure, not furring. Keep minimum 12" above suspended ceiling. 5. All conduits, where they enter panelboards, pull boxes, or outlet boxes, shall be secured in place by galvanized :locknuts and bushings, one locknut outside and one locknut inside of box with bushing on conduit end. All bushings shall be of the in- sulation type. Bushings shall have the insulating material permanently fastened to the fittings. 6. Install all electrical equipment with full regard for the structural integrity of all other portions of the building. Do not support any electrical equipment or conduit from mechanical ducting, plumbing or fire sprinkler systems. Do not drill or "shoot" into any structural member so as to do structural damage. B. Conduit Types /Locations: 1. EMT conduit may be used in furred spaces, in par- titions other than concrete or masonry and for ex- posed work indoors 5 feet or higher above finished floor. . 2. Flexible Conduit: a. Flexible conduit shall be used for connection on all motor terminal boxes to conduit stubs or outlets. Where motors are mounted on sliding bases, the flexible connection shall be of sufficient (minimum 12") length to al- low full travel of motor or base. 3. All other conduits shall be rigid steel. C. Pull Wire: Install a pull wire in all empty conduits. In dry location:;, pull wire shall be No. 16-gauge gal- vanized iron. D. Separation: Maintain a minimum separation of 6" be- tween conduits and hot water lines. E. Inserts, Bangers: 1. Support conduits in horizontal and vertical runs at intervals not greater than 10' and within 3' of any bend and every outlet or junction box. 3.02 CONDUCTORS A. Pulling -In: 1. Thoroughly blow -out conduits and clean bef ee any conductors are drawn in. Install no wires or ca- bles until construction which might damage insula- tion has been completed. 2. Use.no mechanical means of pulling unless ap- proved. 3. Use no lubricant other than powdered scapstono or Minerallac Pull-In Compound for drawing cables or wires into conduits or raceways. 4. Drawings: Drawings accompanying specifications indi- cate general direction and routes of branch circuit homeruns. Continue all homeruns to panel as though routes were completely indicated. Install branch cir- cuit wiring in homeruns exactly as shown on drawings. All conduit shall be run concealed wherever possible.
