The process of grease Interception is simply the separating and retaining of globules of grease, fat, and oils from waste water as it passes through a grease Interceptor. Small molecules of grease unite together In waste water, cling to, and accumulate on the inside of pipe lines, clogging drainage lines from kitchen sinks, dishwashing machines, and other sources of grease laden waste water, The only positive way to avoid costly digging and rodding to clear blocked drainage lines is to intercept the particles of grease, fats and oils, separate them from the waste water, retain and accumulate them In a mass that can then be disposed of easily and conventiently. To help in the separation, perforated baffle plates in the interceptor, opposite the inlet lessen turbulence as the waste water enters the intercepting chamber. This results in a quiet, even flow of water, tree from swirling and eddy- ing currents, permitting the Vtlotation" principle of grease separation to function at its highest efficiency. The more completely turbulence is eliminated, the greater the degree of separation possible. Zum Greaseptors reduce turbulence of waste water within the interceptor to the point of practically eliminating it. The Zurn perforated battle plate design permits approximately 90% of the interior of the interceptor to be used for the (unction of grease separation. Page iT3 OR INTERCEPTORS OIL INTERCEPTORS - GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION ZURN 011 Interceptors are very similar to grease interceptors in that they work on the "flotation" principle -- oil is lighter than water, thus it floats to the top in any water /oil mixture. Oil interceptors are equipped with a sediment bucket under the inlet to trap stones, grit or other substances, and a perfor- ated flow diffusing baffle which eliminates turbulance. This baffle allows for high efficiency of oil/water separation. Perhaps the biggest difference between oil and grease interceptors is the automatic draw -off supplied with each TYPICAL INSTALLATIONS interceptor. This draw -off should be adjusted while the trap is in operation at its normal maximum flow. At this time the draw -off should be set so that it is 1/8" above the operating water level. This allows for only oil to be drawn off as oil levels exceed the 1/8" setting. All Zurn Oil Interceptors are of 100% steel construction, coated with a blue acid resisting epoxy. All Zurn 011 Inter- . ceptors are listed by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO). We will be installing a 500 gallon "Double wall" used oil tank which we will seismically strap to the concrete pad and label accordingly. We are using the following guidelines: The owner of Downtown Harley is having FNW, Inc. (general contractor) pour a concrete pad on the north end of this new building which will be 15' wide by 10' deep and with a 6" high concrete berm incorporated into this pour. The Hp of the pour will be 8" wide, This would be used as additional containment for the 3 55 gallon drums of fresh oil that will be stored on same pad. We are using 5' setback from the foundation for the 500 gallon tank with a 3' setback from other 55 gallon drums of oil. The foundation is 39' from the north property line. The contractor will use a "T" from tho existing wash bay line on the north side of the building and install a drain from the approx. middle of this concrete pad to intercept any oil in this tank pad and drain back to the oil water separator in the main service area of this building, The used oil lines will have a directional decal on plumbing.
