ALRE 7,7 Industry, public works, municipal services and indoor pools are just a few of the many applications that our ExpertAirelm dehumidifiers effectively cover. ExpertAirelm is an enduring product line for Desert Aire that represents the culmination of our core expertise in dehumidification. The ability of these units to be applied to diverse applications combined with their flexibility to appropriately regulate the introduction of outdoor air to a facility makes them a true energy efficient workhorse that consistently performs time and again. DEId 'smir DEHUMIDIFY WITH THE EXPERTS ... ALRE AHRI STANDARD 910 - MOISTURE REMOVAL CAPACITY The Air -Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) created Standard 910 as an industry -wide standard for manufacturers, engi- neers, installers, contractors and end users. The purpose of this standard was to establish, for indoor pool dehumidifiers: defi- nitions; classifications; requirements fortesting and rating; minimum data requirements for published ratings; operating requirements; marking and nameplate data; and conformance conditions. Standard 910 has created new provisions to measure the capacityand effectiveness of pool dehumidifiers. For example, the standard defines Moisture Removal Capacity (MRC) as the amount of condensate a unit produces, as impacted by coils, circulating fans and other components in the airstream, excluding supplementary heating, cooling or outdoor air, and is expressed in Ib/h (kg/h). Also, it defines Moisture Removal Efficiency (MIRE) as a ratio of the MRC divided bythe unit's power input at any given set of rating conditions, and is expressed in lbs of mois- ture/kWh (kgs of moisture/kWh). ExPERTAIRE- MEETsAHRI 910 Desert Aire's ExpertAireTM Series dehumidifiers have been designed with this standard in mind. First, we've used the latest coil design tech- nology to increase evaporator and condenser capacity while simulta- neously reducing their pressure drop. This combination yields the highest MRE available. Secondly, the coilswere designed from the onset to use R410a refrigerant. The entire industry was required to change overto this refrigerant by 2010. In 2006, we had already introduced our ExpertAireTm series with R410a, thus optimizing this system's design and performance well in advance of the deadline. DesertAire has also submitted the ExpertAireTm Seriesto an independ- ent testing laboratory for positive verification of its MRC's and MRE'S. The AHRI Certified seal is your reassurance of our unit's dehumidification capabilities FEATURES Many applications need the removal of unwanted moisture. If unchecked, this moisture causes condensation on walls, windows and floors. This can create problems with a building's structural integrity and consequently endanger customers and employees. Figure I -Basic Refrigeration Circuit Diagram In manufacturing, a humid environmentcan also contribute to lowered productivity by damaging product or increasing cycle times. Desert Aire's ExpertAireTM Series products are designed for applica- tions with airtemperatures between 65° and 95°F (181 and 35°C) that require moisture removal between 4 and 100 lbs (2 and 45 kg) per hour. An ExpertAireTm dehumidifier optimizes moisture removal by using a specially designed coil to maximize the system's latent capability, thus yielding 3 to 4 times the moisture removal capacity overa standard air conditioning system. Each system also includes a hot gas reheat coil that is sized for 100% rejection of the recovered energy. This coil allows the unitto continue to dehumidify without over-coolingthe space. These systems also feature an optional capacity control design which protects the coil from freezing during low temperature/low load oper- ation. In addition, the system helps to eliminate high load nuisance service trips by re -balancing the refrigerant system. ExpertAireTm models are fully protected with IEC starters, overloads and refrigerant switches. ExpertAireTm dehumidifiers feature scroll compressors for high efficiency and long life. Other components are also designed for longevity such as our cabinet which is manufactured from galvanneal with a high impact, powder coat textured paint finish. A distinct feature of these dehumidifiers is that they can be equipped with an outdoor air intake connection to help meet ASHRAE 62 stan- dards. Outdoor air is introduced after the evaporator coil but priorto the reheat condenser to guarantee moisture removal capacities. In addition, the units are equipped with an evaporator bypass damper. This feature automatically adjusts the evaporator air volume to main- tain proper air distribution over the coil in all modes of operation. Our ExpertAireTm dehumidifiers also offer a control that enables the unit to completely close the outdoor air damper when afacility is in an unoccupied mode. Because no outdoor air is being introduced for ventilation, this feature eliminates the need to further condition the outdoor air (heating, dehumidification or cooling) which in return, helps save energy. REFRIGERATION CONFIGURATIONS ExpertAire'm is available in one of the following five configurations. REHEAT ONLY... Comprised of a partially sized water coil, a full sized reheat coil, a full sized remote condenser and two three-way valves, this circuit provides the most flexibility in heat rejection. The first three-way valve always provides the option to send refrigerant to the water condenser. After WATER CONDENSER leaving the water condenser, the refrigerant is then sent to a second three-way valve which can transfer the remaining heat to either a re- heat coil or remote condenser. However, if there is no call for water heating, the first three-way valve delivers the refrigerant to the second three-way valve which can then reject all energy either to the reheat coil or remote condenser. Dehumidification controls humidity levels which can contribute to condensation and the growth of mold and mildew. Dehumidification Saves Energy Over Conventional Ventilation Conventional ventilation systems attempt to control poolroom humidity by exhaustingwarm, moist airand bringingin outdoor air. The result is huge annual energy expenses. As dehumid- ifiers dry the pool room air, they capture heat energy from warm air and the moisture it contains. By carefully choosing where to release energy, dehumidifiers can give you big savings on energy bills. Moisture Load Calculations With thousands of successful installations in reliable operation, Desert Aire has the experience to provide the right dehumidi- fication solution foryourpool room. The keyto proper moisture control is to understand how much moisture will be in the pool room air under various conditions. Desert Aire representatives use advanced software to calculate moisture loads and select the right dehumidifier quickly and accurately. Application Note 10: Swimming Pool Dehumidifier Sizing explains the theory behind the calculations. HVAC System Design Information Your contractor is responsible for understanding the heating and cooling loads for a pool room, and the heating require- ments forthe pool water. You will need to agree on acceptable pool room air and water temperatures. Auxiliary heating and cooling needs beyond what can be supplied by the dehumid- ifier should be addressed by your contractor. ElectroFin° E -coat is a water-based, flexible epoxy polymer coating process engineered specifically for HVAC/R heat transfer coils. ElectroFine uses a PPG POWERCRONO a -coat formulation specifically designed to provide excellent edge coverage of fins with a unique polymer that controls the flow characteristics of the coating. Benefits of ElectroFin's factory -applied electrocoating process: The only process that can guarantee 100% coil coverage without bridging, including enhanced fin designs Excellent corrosion and UV resistance make it suitable for pool room and coastal environments Electrocoating is the process by which a metallic work piece (coil) is submerged in a paint / water bath where electricity is used to deposit paint onto it. 5 S 66 66 66 66 66 66 Figure 1- ElectroFin ° E -coat Process Corrosion Resistance In the electrocoating process, the coil assembly acts in the same way as a magnet. The coating molecules are electrically attracted to the metallic coil surfaces, meaning the entire coil is completely and uniformly coated. When we mention the entire coil we are talking about the coil fins, end plates, copper tubing and copper return bends. In other words, the coating covers the entire coil assembly. The result is a finish which provides excellent resistance to pool chemical, coastal marine (salt -air), industrial and urban environments. When properly maintained, you can expect ElectroFin® e -coated coils to provide protection for years. Desert Aire provides a 5 -year coil parts warranty as evidence of its superior protection. Resistance to UV Degradation When coils are to be subjected to ultraviolet exposure such as the remote condenser, they receive a spray -applied, UV -resistant urethane mastic topcoat. As a result, UV degradation of the epoxy a -coat polymer molecules is eliminated and the film integrity is maintained. This is offered as an option for our RC Series condensers. Proven Effective The electro -deposition process is the most automatic, controllable, and efficient method for applying a corrosion inhibiting coating to a metallic work piece. The process dictates that all metal surfaces are coated in an even, uniform finish. All coil surfaces reach an average a -coat dry film thickness of 1 mil (0.001"). It meets the 5B rating cross -hatch adhesion per ASTM 83359-93. Corrosion durability is confirmed through testing to no less than 5,000 hours saltspray resistance per ASTM B117-90 using scribed aluminum test coupons. Comparison to Fin Stock Coatings Not all coil coatings are the same. Many dehumidifier companies use a fin stock coating that is applied to the aluminum stock before the coil is manufactured. This means the edges of the fin, the coppertubes and the steel header remain uncoated. ,rt BERT /,SIRE Project: Courtyard Marriott SeaTac-Tukwila Location: Tukwila, WA Unit Model #: LC04R4WNE System Tag: Pool Room Dehumidifier Section 2 Schedule Data & Performance Curves • Schedule Data Sheet • Moisture Removal Performance Curves • Blower Curve & Pool Load Worksheet Z) EFFECTIVE HUMIDITY CONTROL ZI w1DEAMBIENT RANGE O SELF-CONTAINED SYSTEM Cl AIR CONDITIONING OPTION Data Sheet for Models LC 01-06 91 YS TEM SUMMARY Desert Aire's ExpertAire dehumidifiers have many options to insure that they meet the requirements of each specific jobsite. All DESERT AIRE equipment is consistently manufactured to high performance standards for efficient, reliable service. Our Remote Condensers are easy to install too. ftl IM IGH PERFORMANCE, DURABILITY & EFFICIENCY COILS - Round Tube Coils -Enhanced tubing, advanced sinusoidal fin design for optimal performance. Extensive use of 5/16" and 3/8" diameter tubing keeps refrigerant charge to a minimum. Optional, ElectroFin E -Coat provides a uniform, flexible coating over the entire coil with immeasurable impact on thermal conductivity. 100% coverage is assured by the application process, even in the hard to reach center portions of the coil, without bridging between the fins. We recommend the application anytime a remote condenser is located near a salt water coast or a potential source of corrosive airborne particles. FANS - Swept fan blades are designed as part of the motor, not an addition to it. Precise matching of these two components increases energy efficiency and reduces sound pressure to lower levels. MOTORS - Direct drive external rotor motors offer uncompro- mised energy efficiency, low sound, and the longest trouble free life available. The RC8 & RCU series have fully enclosed motor lead raceways to protect wiring. CABINETS - Pre -painted galvanized steel cabinet provides years of durable finish protection and ascetics. The RC8 & RCU series have tall venturi fan panels to add to our uncompromised energy efficiency and ultra-low sound. Fully baffled fan cells prevent "wind milling" and enhance performance. rC-Sgf a ij? 14111111 JTJASYiNSTALLATION After uncrating, the condenser easily lifts into place with the use of eye bolts located on top of the unit. At ground level, the condenser can rest on a solid surface such as a concrete slab. On roofs, the unit should be placed on channels or an I-beam frame. DESERT AIRE has a condenser for every application. Our com- plete line of direct -drive condensers compliments the wide range of our dehumidification offerings. Head pressure controls automatically maintain condensing pressure at ambient temperatures as low as -20°F. ULTIPLE REFRIGERATION CIRCUITS DESERT AIRE's large commercial condensers are available in single or dual -circuit designs to match the needs of the dehumidifier. Each condenser fan is independently controlled to limit refrigeration migration and maintain design condensing temperatures. Elevation above sea level has an effect on the performance of P air-cooled condensers. The unit capacities PA shown in the Performance Table must be UDIE0IEMTT multiplied by the correction factors in ®LQQEE Table 1 to correct for various elevations. NOTES: All data contained in this document is subject to change without notice. Please consult factory for most current data. Condensers in this brochure are limited to an elevation difference of 10 feet (RC below) and a maximum linear distance of 50 feet. Consult factory for high -lift model options. ROUND AND POWER RC STANDARD SERIES Desert Aire's RC series of condensers are for customers seeking the most economical solution for their capacity requirements. This series of condensers offer quality sound and power benefits. Enhanced motor technology using an 1100 RPM blower/fan combination affords lower noise levels and significant energy savings. RCU QUIET SERIES The RCU series offers exceptional sound, energy and capacity solutions. Featuring 500 RPM motors coupled with specially designed blades that are precisely mounted in a venturi to pro- vide unprecedented low sound levels. While RCU condensers may require more fans, these units actually require significantly lower power consumption through their optimized blower effi- ciency. (See Figures 2 and 3 for comparisons.) STANDARD FEATURES Standard equipment includes a door interlock and a main terminal block for motor lead termination. The RC8 & RCU series includes a main disconnect switch. Standard control i panels are rated at 10 kA SCCR when power is supplied with class J fuses. &EVATION CORRECTION FACTORS ELEVATION (FEET) 1,000 2,000 3,000 4,000 5,000 6,000 7,000 CORRECTION 0.98 0.96 0.93 0.91 0.89 0.87 0.85 FACTOR Table 1 ROC model: RC5S024C Figure 1 - ROC Model Matrix RC 8 D 021 C 3 N 00000 1 1 Remote Condenser Width S - Single Type D - Dual 5 - Small Std. Do not attach ductwork to the coil inlet or fan outlet. Care should be taken to avoid air recirculation conditions that can be caused by sight screening, walls, etc. Keep unit fan discharge away from any building air intakes. Space and Location Requirements The most important aspect in selecting a location for air-cooled equipment is a supply of ambient air to the condenser and the adequate removal of heated air from the condenser area. If the requirement for adequate air circulation is not adhered to, higher head pressures will result, creating poor operation and possible failure of equipment. Units must not be located in the vicinity of steam, hot air or fume exhausts. Walls or Obstructions AIR FLOW WR MIN. The unit should be located so that air may circulate freely and not be recirculated. For proper air flow and access, all sides of the unit should be a minimum of the width of the unit away from any wall or obstruction. It is preferable for this distance be increased whenever possible. Care should be taken to see that ample room is left for maintenance through access doors and panels. Overhead obstructions are not permitted. When the unit is in an area where it is enclosed by three walls the unit must be installed as indicated for units in a pit. Units In Pits jr STACK r -- -i(BY OTHERS AIRMAX. IF SUPPLIED FLOW r 2W' 2W' MIN_ MIN. 'l. A- _ v The top of the unit should be level with the top of the pit and side distance increased to two times the width of the unit. If the top of the unit is not level with the top of pit, discharge cones or stacks must be used to raise discharge air to the top of the pit. This is a minimum requirement. Multiple Units AIR FLOW AIR FLOW WR ____n MIN. A A i For units placed side by side, the minimum distance between units is the width of the largest unit. If units are placed end to end, the minimum distance between units is four feet. Decorative Fences A m ri cul Fences must have 50 percent free area, with a one -foot undercut, a minimum clearance equal to the width of the unit and must not exceed the height of the unit. If these requirements are not met, unit must be installed as indicated for units in pits. Sound and Vibration Units should be installed away from occupied spaces to reduce the transmission of sound and vibration to occupied spaces. Units should be mounted over corridors, utility areas, rest rooms and other auxiliary areas where high levels of sound are not an important factor. Sound and structural consultants should be retained for recommendations. The refrigerant piping should be flexible enough to prevent the transmission of noise and vibration from the unit into the building. If the refrigerant lines are to be suspended from the structure of the building, isolation hangers should be used to prevent the transmission of vibration. Where piping passes through a wall, it is advisable to pack fiberglass and sealing compound around the lines to minimize vibration and retain flexibility in the lines. The unit needs to be secured in its final location. Holes are provided in the base runner for this purpose. *W = Total width of the condenser.
