Boards & Commissions Application

I am interested in serving in the Community Police Advisory Committee, as my current and past
work experience has provided me with experience that aligns well with contributing to this
committee. As a former crime advocate, I provided case management to survivors who were victims
of trafficking, domestic violence and other types of crimes and faced homelessness and other
economic barriers. Being resourceful and knowledgeable about resources throughout the
community has been a great skill. Partnerships and creating relationships to provide the support to
survivors is always important. As an advocate I always wanted to find ways to collaborate with law
enforcement to provide the adequate services and make survivors get their rights and be heard. I
value the importance of community and helping others. Specifically working with victims of crime
and citizens of the community has provided me the skills to be empathetic, flexible, resourceful, and
advocate for rights.
My experience working with diverse communities has taught me to communicate effectively with
survivors, victims, attorneys, law enforcement, and other social service professionals as well as
understand the importance of maintaining those relationships. Throughout my work experience, I
have learned to value partnerships, integrity, and commitment. In addition, being a long-time
Tukwila resident. I find it important and rewarding to give back to my community and be a voice for
for everyone that lives, works, or has a tie to Tukwila. For these reasons, I am interested in serving
in this committee, since it would be important to work with members to ensure safety, dignity, and
respect for all.
Washington and Seattle University. Through my studies, work and lived experiences, I have
acquired a foundation of knowledge and skills of how to work with a diverse population, knowledge
of the system, and the importance and difference it can make when law enforcement and
community have a trusting and strong relationship.
