SUBJECT: City Administrator's Report
The City Administrator Report is meant to provide the Council, staff and community an update on
the activities of the City and on issues that concern Tukwila. Please let me know if you have any
questions or need additional information about any of the following items.
i. Intergovernmental Update
• Association for Commuter Transportation 2023 International Conference: Community
Development staff attended the Association for Commuter Transportation 2023 International
Conference. Alison Turner presented with a panel on Transportation Demand Management
Partnerships in the Greater Seattle Area. The panel included speakers from King County
Metro and the cities of Bellevue, Kirkland, and Redmond.
• King County Air & Space 2030 Strategy Legislative Briefing: Mayor Ekberg participated in
the King County Air & Space 2030 Strategy Legislative Briefing on August 2.
• Meeting with Tukwila School District: On August 7 Mayor Ekberg, City Administrator Cline
and Acting Administrative Services Director Joel Bush met with Dr. Concie Pedroza, Interim
Superintendent and Jeff Baker, Director of CTE, Data & Technology Services for the Tukwila
School District.
• Sound Cities Association Mayors Meeting: Mayor Ekberg participated in a Sound Cities
Association Mayors meeting on August 8.
• Chinook Wind Mitigation Project Celebration Event: On August 10 Mayor Ekberg,
Councilmember Kruller and City Administrator Cline joined King County Executive Dow
Constantine at an event celebrating the completion of the Chinook Wind Mitigation Project.
• WRIA 9 Watershed Ecosystem Forum: Mayor Ekberg participated in a WRIA 9 Watershed
Ecosystem Forum held at the Tukwila Community Center on August 10.
• Washington Cities Insurance Authority Executive Committee Meeting: City Administrator
Cline attended a Washington Cities Insurance Authority Executive Committee meeting on
August 11.

II. Community Events
• Comprehensive Plan Presentations: Last week Community Development staff presented
information on the Comprehensive Plan update to the Library Advisory Board and the Park
Commission.
• Comprehensive Plan Community Open House: A Community Open House has been
scheduled for September 20 at Foster High School to talk about the Comprehensive Plan.
• Bulky Item Pick -Up Event: Waste Management, in collaboration with the City's Recycling
Program, conducted its Annual Bulky Item Pick-up on August 5. While there were a few
hiccups with materials not being picked up on schedule, Waste Management has gone back
through the neighborhoods to pick up any remaining items.
• First Fridays at Foster: The last movie and concert night of the summer was held at Foster
Golf Links on August 4. 145 residents came out to watch Encanto and listen to indie band
Waking Bear.
• Stewardship: EarthCorps is hosting two professional crew days and two volunteer events at
Codiga and Tukwila Park in the next week.
III. Staff Updates
Public Safety
• Meeting with Westfield Southcenter: On August 1, Chief Dreyer and Deputy Chief Lund met
with Westfield Southcenter Mall management to discuss safety concerns.
• National Night Out Against Crime: On August 1, Mayor Ekberg, Councilmembers Hougardy
and Sharp and City Administrator Cline joined several Police Department and other City staff
to attend National Night Out events in Tukwila. Events were held at 20 different locations
throughout the city. Councilmembers Kruller and McLeod participated independently.
• Meeting with Tukwila School District: On August 7, Chief Dreyer met with the new Interim
Superintendent, Dr. Concie Pedroza, and School Board President, Carlee Hoover, to discuss the
School Resource Officer program and plans for moving forward.
Project Updates
• 2023 Annual Overlay Program: Estimated Completion: Fall 2023
Construction started July 10. Most grinding efforts have taken place on all roads in the
project. Asphalt placement begins this week. Raised crosswalk at 119th/42nd is partially
constructed with the RRFB signals being installed this week or next.

• Arts Commission: The next meeting is scheduled for August 23, 2023.

recommendation scheduled for August 21, 2023.
